Guest guest
Look in the Mexican recipe folder in the recipe files Donna Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile " itshotinjt04 " <itshotinjt04 Tue, 24 Jun 2008 20:12:57 Tortilla recipe? Anyone have a recipe (and direction)for making tortillas? I am sure they would taste better than the store bought ones. I would also like to use wheat flour and they do not make wheat flour tortillas in the extra large size (that I can find). I remember having a home made tortilla made by our neighbors as a child and it was the best burrito I ever had. Thanks!!

Guest guest
I make my own tortillas with home-ground whole flour. Here it is: 4 cups whole wheat flour (I use 3 cps hard white wheat,1 cup soft white wheat) 1 1/2 cups of warm water 1/2 cup vegetable shortening (I've tried other more 'healthy " oils, but they don't work as well) 1 1/2 tsp salt That's it. I put it in on the pizza dough cycle of my bread maker, but you obviously don't have to. I make approximately 2 " balls, and flatten them in a tortilla maker (cook them there too). If you do this by hand, roll them out as this as you can on a lightly floured surface. You can cook them on a griddle for about 2 minutes per side or until lightly browned. ¸.·´ .·´¨¨)) ((¸¸.·´ .·´ -:¦:- Terri -:¦:- ((¸¸.·´ On Jun 24, 2008, at 4:12 PM, itshotinjt04 wrote: > Anyone have a recipe (and direction)for making tortillas? Guest guest
As for the shortening, you can use palm oil, it is hard at room temperature, and works just like it! And best of all, it's not hydrogenated, so no trans fat! I have found it very cheaply in the baking section of the grocery store next to the conventional shortenings, the kind I get is labeled as " Shortening, No Trans Fat " . Check the ingredient list, it should say Palm oil. Thanks for the tortilla recipe....I gotta get crackin' making these! ha!
