Guest guest
We dry a lot of fruits and veggies. I got a great food dehydrator on Freecycle ( in my area). We put in a big, big garden and we use the veggies as landscaping so nobody every really knows that there's food growing all around the house. We also have a root cellar so we can store things like apples and potatoes over the winter. Jillian Check out our blog! http://jillmarsh.blogspot.com/ In a message dated 6/28/2008 7:03:10 P.M. Guest guest
Thanks! This list is very helpful and just what I was looking for. I'd like to see what anyone else can come up with. Was anything forgotten? As I said, I'm a vegetarian/vegan wannabe and I know my kids would easily convert. All I need is to have everything available. I'm also silently praying that the price of meat keeps going up making it cost prohibitive. Then I will be FORCED to eat the way I know I should. sandra in IN ************************************************************************* Beans in different colors lentils different colors wheat berries, rye, barley oats, triticale, kamut (grind yourself, they will keep longer whole) Quinoa, amaranth, millet if you like it (i don't) soy beans chick peas mung beans and other seeds to sprout - you can sprout and make fresh veggies from so many things in your pantry is is surprising (i do it) rice, brown, red, black dried carrots, kale, celery, onions garlic (stays good a long time), will spout and regenerate spices to make fod interesting (your choice) aseptically packaged tofu and soy milk dried mushrooms canned goods like veggies, mushrooms and beans sea vegetables: arame, wakame, hijiki, kombu, the sushi kind forget the name nuts- peanuts (i know, not a nut) almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts, pecans, pine nuts - these will not keep long without refrigeration in hot weather_ TVP - this lasts trough anything seeds: sesame, sunflower, hulled hemp salt tea, coffee (or herbal drinks of your choice your favorite liquor if you drink OK, looking forward to the rest of the answers. Guest guest
Just reading gave me the push I needed. I have to say, I was more determined and health-minded when I began this journey, as all the information I had recently learned was fresh in my mind. I tend to slack, hit up prepackaged convenience foods, and have gone back to eating feta and goat cheeses one day I will get there, per why I call it a journey. Best wished on yours! Guest guest
There should be a huge list in our group file section. I believe we put one in there so members would jhave some ideas for food storage in case of an emergency. I'm like you and I keep all those things on hand too.
