Guest guest
Hello! I am new to the group. I have a husband and 7 year old daughter. I became a vegetarian 8 months ago. In the beginning, husband thought it was just a phase, low and behold, 8 months later I am still a veg. He hates dinner time....because when I cook I don't include any meat. He complains and rolls his eyes when he sees there is no meat. Sorry, I just can't chop it up and cook it anymore. If he wants meat he has to cook it himself. 8 months later he still can't believe that I won't eat meat and stopped making his meals with meat. Thank goodness daughter will eat anything I cook lol! I really can't think of any good veg recipes that will satisfy the hardcore meat-eater in the house. How do the rest of you vegetarians cope with the meat-eaters in your family and how do you get them to cope with you? Sam
Guest guest
Have you tried any of the meat substitute products? My hubby likes the Quorn (like chicken) products (fav is with pasta, olive oil, lots of garlic, broccoli, mushrooms). I add the crumbles to lasagna etc or chili. Look in the files, lots of great meatless burger and " meat " loaf recipes. Baked tofu added to stirfry (even plain tofu is tolerated!), tempeh isn't a fav. Veggie burgers, " chicken " patties are one of his favorites. Look for sausage type products next time you're shopping, I add those to things sometimes too (goes over better if it's a casserole or stir fry type meal). I try to add/combine lots of other ingredients so it's more flavorful overall, not so much 3 items separate on the plate (i.e. meat, starch, vegetable - that's how I was brought up). He cooks the meat if he wants it, but is willing to do more veg meals more often. Guest guest
Hello! Thanks for the tips, there is whole foods store in another town 20 min from, I hear they have those types of items there. I will definitely have to stop there!! I've cooked the veggie patties before (even the ones that look like meat) but he refuses to try it! But that is as far as " fake meat " he has tried so far. I hope I can find that Quorn there, I've never heard of it. Thanks for the suggestion! Sam , " " < wrote: > > Have you tried any of the meat substitute products? Guest guest
Many of the regular grocery stores have a whole foods section and some of these products (Stop and Shop has the quorn and veggie burgers etc in the frozen section - I forgot to mention that many of these are frozen - quorn (micoprotein), soy crumbles, veggie burgers). Look here: www.quorn.us It comes in many forms, I get the chunks, saute them in olive oil and a LITTLE tumeric (optional, I just like tumeric and it gives it a yellow coloring, you don't need much so use sparingly or it's TOO yellow) to brown the pieces so they look more like " chicken " , add a little sea salt, garlic (or garlic powder) then add in your other ingredients. Check out the site to see what they make! Jann " Sam " <samt wrote: > Thanks for the tips, there is whole foods store in another town 20 min from, I hear they have those types of items there.
