Guest guest
My family and veg friends eat it often. Nevere heard of a problem with it. It makes sense as you can be allergic to almost anything. Do you have a problem with mushrooms? Donna Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile Thu, 03 Jul 2008 21:51:31 Quorn Poisoning warning and question I bought some Quorn cutlets a few years ago, and became violently ill a couple of hours after eating one. Although some have asked why I continued to eat them, it's because I blamed it's not always easy to figure out which food item causes such illness. It wasn't until the 3rd bout (over about 2 wks time)-- which took me to the ER from uncontrolled vomiting/dizziness, and weakness -- that I realized the only thing I'd eaten each of the 3 times was the Quorn. Last fall, I went to a Thanksgiving cooking class at WIld Oats. The cook told us she'd made one dish with Quorn; one with Tofu because, she said, some folks get a sick from Quorn. I ate the tofu one, but a couple of years had passed since my fateful meetup with Quorn, and I figured just one bite wouldn't hurt. That's all I had...1 bite. Then I completely forgot about it, until about an hr or two later when I started to feel nauseated. I made myself vomit to avoid the hours long episode I was familiar with. I just want to warn those of you who are new to being veg. Quorn is the only food I've had this trouble with. I don't tend toward food troubles otherwise. I don't know what it is about me, or what it is about Quorn...I do know its a mycoprotein, which seems fungal- related (molds?), which makes me wonder if there's any possible connection to penicillin-allergy. Does anyone else here get really ill from Quorn who is also allergic to penicillin? or who isn't allergic to it?

Guest guest
My favorite is the garlic chick'n filets. I also love the turkey roast, which I use the leftovers to make 'chicken salad' with. My mom in law cannot tell the difference, she likes it just the same. I have used the meatballs to make Swedish meatballs, and they rock! much better than soy meat substitutes. I also use the chick'n ..oh what are they called? They are like little bites, they are great in stir fries. I also use the ground " beef' for tacos and chile. out of this world. Guest guest
Line me up with you Chanda, quorn is one of my staples. I tried veganism for a while but the thing I could not live without was quorn, dairy, eggs, milk, cheese, whatever, no problem but I was just lost without quorn, and at the moment I am on a very low fat diet due to gall bladder problems, so quorn is a lifesaver for me. I am already allergic to two of my favourite foods, onions and sweetcorn, if it happens with quorn too, I just don't even want to think about it, but as allergies/intolerances seem to happen with foods you eat a lot maybe it is something I do need to think about. Guest guest
don't worry Carolyn, we will be ok, the chances we will become allergic are slim! have faith girlfriend! I am with you, I would love to be vegan, but I just don't have the strength to give up the stuff. I do my best with free range and all that, but I know that is not all it I cracked up to be, but hopefully someday I can go vegan, and hopefully by then quorn will have thought of something else besides egg whites. they say they are working on it. hugs, chanda - Carolyn Sunday, July 06, 2008 6:23 PM RE: Re: Quorn eat it often Line me up with you Chanda, quorn is one of my staples. Guest guest
I LOVE it too, Chanda. I use it about once a week. I have never had many of the products you mentioned; I will have to try the meatballs. I think they are a great alternative to the soy-based analogs. I have many friends that are not vegetarian, but that have soy sensitivity due to allergies or thyroid issues. They want to go veg and eat more veg meals, or just try my recipes, but always shy away from the tofu or soy stuff. Quorn products give them a new alternative. The other day I had a sandwich made with Quorn roast that I sliced very thin. I shared some with my co-worker and she thought it rocked; she was raised vegetarian but isn't one now and she couldn't believe how great it was. ~ PT ~ Love is not blind -- it sees more, not less -- but because it sees more, it is willing to see less. ~ Rabbi Julins Gordon ~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~> , " Puterwitch " <puterwitch wrote: > > My favorite is the garlic chick'n filets.
