Big hit with kids! ( and me!) made form rice, ground almonds, tofu and soy sauce and breadcrumbs. I have no MC, so I can't[ post- but you may want to look for it. Have fun with the 1year old Jami Clark [JNFISHER01] Wednesday, May 05, 2004 8:51 AM Veg-Recipes New here! Hi Everyone, My name is Jami. I've been a vegetarian for 15.5 years! I enjoy cooking, but have had much less time to do so since the birth of my son, who is almost one! As such, I'd love to see/get some quick and easy recipes/shortcuts on this listserv. Also, my son is a vegetarian, too...so if there are any recipes suitable for him (eating mostly finger food), that would be doubly great! THANKS! Guest guest
Are you having any luck with the ADHD? I have that and would love to hear any success stories you might have. Jacqueline kellmar98 [kellmar98] November 12, 2004 12:52 PM New Here! Hi, my name is Kelly. I am thinking about becoming a vegetarian, and right now I am eating very little meat. My three children do not eat meat. They are naturally vegetarian......they don't eat meat, and they don't like it. Last weekend my husband (who loves meat by the way) tried to give all three of them bacon.....and all three of them rejected it and said YUCK! My husband and I have two adopted daughters, Lexi who is 6, and Mariah who is 4. We also have a foster daughter Katrina who is two. About two months ago we went to an all organic diet. I did this because Mariah was diagnosed with ADHD. In an effort to help Mariah I started doing a lot of research, and learned that a lot of crap that is in the American child's diet affects the symptoms of ADHD. So now I've got all three girls eating very healthy and taking supplements. I myself am developing some health problems, so adopting a healthy lifestyle I think is important for the whole family. My kids are eating mostly fresh fruits and vegys, homemade smoothies, whole grains, beans, and nuts. I'm interested in what everyone is feading their kids. My girls don't drink cows milk either, Mariah is lactose intolerant. I have been putting goat's milk powder in their smoothies to get some extra calcium in them. They drink water too. Since I am brand new to this.....I'm still fumbling around trying to figure it all out. Any input anyone has would be greatly appreciated. Guest guest
Dear Kelly I am totally supporting you. Being a vegetarian for 8 years, I feel I have been living in a state that free from illness. Compared to the meat eaters, which I always hear them telling me one illness after another, I feel I have made a right choice. But I also hear problems arising from vegetarian, not enough nutrients. Though reading, I learnt that I cannot just live on few type of vegetables, beans and nuts. We have to eat many types of foods in one day. So just mixed a little of all things. regards chay loon - kellmar98 Saturday, November 13, 2004 12:52 AM New Here! Hi, my name is Kelly. Guest guest
It's a process. She was just diagnosed in August. It has been a challenge to say the least. I think changing her diet to organic, adding supplements, removing dyes and corn syrup and taking her to the chiropractor have helped her over all health. But putting her on Concerta a week ago is what has really helped the adhd. I did not want to do it. I wanted to go the drug free route, but it became apparent she really needed the medication. Now it's as if she has the ability to stop and think about what she is doing and it has chilled her out. It's certainly not a perfect answer, but things have been a lot smoother in this house the last week. Kelly Jacq <jacqcote wrote: Are you having any luck with the ADHD? Guest guest
This is something I am working on. I need to do some research so I make sure that the kids and I are getting all the nutrients we need. I'm fairly certain the kids are getting what they need, but I need to work on better nutrition for myself. And if I could convince my husband to stop eating big slabs of steak and drinking whole cow's milk he would be a lot better off......he has type II Diabetes and just has not made the connection yet. He thinks that by eating meat and cutting down on carbs he can control his sugars and lose weight. Kelly Seah Chay Loon <saimeng wrote: Dear Kelly I am totally supporting you. Guest guest
I am on a few adhd boards....one of them is an adhd drug-free board. There are several women on there that have successfully treated their childs adhd with just supplements, organic diet, removal of corn syrup and dyes, and adding fish oil to the diets. I wish I could say that was us....no drugs....but I am hopefull for the future. Some of the people have done neurofeedback or biofeedback and had great results.....this is something I would love to do with Mariah but it is very expensive. Some do the Feingold diet if you have ever heard of that? I personally don't know much about the Feingold diet to be honest. Plus they do a variety of other alternative things.....homeopath, chiropractory, toxic cleansing etc. I've been taking the girls to the chiropractor. Mariah was a chronic bed wetter and since she's been going to the chiropractor it has stopped.....the poor kid was all out of alignment. I throw different nuts and seeds into their smoothies each day. One day I might do sun flower seeds another day I'll throw some almonds in. They don't know the difference....all they can taste is the berries in the smoothie. I throw all kinds of stuff in those smoothies they don't even realize it. Two of my kids will eat nuts on their own, and Mariah my 4 year old will not.....although the kid is obsessed with peanut butter so I guess it evens out. I'm careful yet what nuts I give Katrina since she is two and I don't want her to choke. Kelly cristene bailey <maibee23 wrote: hi kelly! sounds like you are doing great so far! Guest guest
There are 2 great books about diabetes and vegetarian diet. One is by Neal Barnard of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. I think it is called " Prevent and Treat Diabetes " but I'm not sure. You can buy it from PCRM atthier web site. The other is by Brenda Davis. I don't remeber the name. You can look it up on Amazon.com under the authors name. I bought them when I was pregnant the last time because I had gestational diabetes. My diabetes educator agreed with me that the Brenda Davis book is really good and she is not a vegetarian. Good luck trying to change his eating habits. I have been trying with my hubby for many years to no avail. His father became diabetic at 40. My husband is now 41 and at least 30 pounds over weight. Guest guest
Hi Kelly I think you did the right thing and I 'm glad that it helped her. If your child had diabetes you would give her insulin, right? Sometimes medication is necessary. None of us wants to give our kids meds but when they need it we have to realize it and do what will help them. I say good for you for doing whatever you had to to help you child. Albeit some meat, but awesome veggie choices nonetheless! :^) Jiraph ===== " The cat did not respond. She did not believe in paraphrasing anybody. Guest guest
Hi Tammy Welcome to Vegan Chat. I hope you enjoy it here. I presume that you are intending eventually to give up eating fish as well. Fish was the last animal we gave up eating. I can't think why though. I still eat sessile invertebrates like clams on rare occasions. They don't have the same nervous system as a more active animal because they are sessile. Guest guest
Yes Eventually I am giving up fish. Some people are easy to just quit cold turkey but I had a hard time doing so. It is amazing how much more "Fresh" I feel everyday. It is hard to describe. Thanks Tammyheartwerk <jo.heartwork wrote: Hi TammyWelcome to Vegan Chat. Guest guest
They are still animals though - and a person cannot call themselves vegan or vegetarian if they are eating them. Incidentally a friend of mine runs a society for the protection of crustaceans. Jo - Oom Yaaqub Thursday, March 29, 2007 9:08 AM Re: Re: new here! Incidentally a friend of mine runs a society for the protection of crustaceans.]] Well, clams are mollusks. In any case, I think in terms of cruelty, not labels. I think the horrors of factory farming are such that it makes little sense to eat eggs and milk--if anything, MORE cruelty is involved, unless you buy directly from some farm that is humane. Drinking milk from the grocery store is a lot worse than eating a deer killed by a hunter, since at least that deer had a life before it was killed. But of course, it is preferable to consume no animal products.
