Guest guest
We went to a big party on the 4th for one of my dh's contractors. I figured that I'd just eat macaroni salads and the raw veggies, plus my spinach dip, since I knew it was going to be mostly meat for food. I couldln't believe that people even put meat in the macaroni salads. Even before become a veg. I didn't put meat in the salads. Needless to say I quickly gathered as much of the raw veggies (weren't too many there) as I could and munched on those. My spinach dip and dessert did disappear quickly. Even before becoming veg. when I was outside all day in the sun, I mostly wanted fruits and veggies anyway, because it was light. We did have a great time, and next time, I'll bring my own salads. Guest guest
Hi there, Just wanted to say that I can relate to happenstance like these because usually we vegetarians are outnumbered at such events! But I also wanted to comment that it seems gracious of you not to make an issue of your being a vegetarian and for just eating the raw veggies and your spinach dip. I usually blush whenever someone else tries to make certain that there is food for me to eat and in doing so, draws attention to the fact that I'm not eating what everyone else is eating. I like to be low key and not cause others to have to worry about me so that we can all focus on just having a good time. It's different if the host inquires beforehand, but otherwise, I don't make it an issue. Besides, if you were to meet me, you'd see that I'm very well grainfed and happy!! Btw, I'm new to this group, it seems like a very neat group! ~Stephie (Maryland) , Kelly Best <bests4him wrote: > > We went to a big party on the 4th for one of my dh's contractors. Guest guest
I also take a very good dish I can eat and I am loud and proud to be vegetarian, if they press me to eat their food I simply say, it looks good but I'm vegetariuan. If they make a rude comment back I simply say I do this for me just like you eat your diet for you, keep a smile on your face and they are usually curious and ask a little bit about the types of foods you do eat. Yesterday my DX has a ton of people here for a BBQ pool party, out of this massive crowd there were 7 vegetarians, all the side dishes were vegetarian and the non-vegs even ate up my mock chik salad and loved it, I just thanked them for all the compliments, I guess they thought it was non-veg and I'm sure if I said it was made with tempeh they would think that was some new breed of bird.LOL Donna --- On Sun, 7/6/08, Steph Goddard <teka01 wrote: Steph Goddard <teka01 Re: 4th food Sunday, July 6, 2008, 5:39 AM Hi there, Just wanted to say that I can relate to happenstance like these because usually we vegetarians are outnumbered at such events! Guest guest
We celebrate on the 1st in Canada but I was on an outing with friends on the 4th. We eat at a coffee shop but I take my own lunch. I made a mock chicken sandwich with a gardein product and took a few pieces in a baggie in case one of my friends wanted to try it. I don't force them but just leave whatever it is sitting on the table. One friend broke off a piece about the size of a small raisin because it had carbs in it and more than that would throw off her diet. She said it was good. a second friend made a nasty face and said " no thanks " ., The 3rd friend, tried and it and not only said it was delicious but wanted to know where to buy some. Friend #2 decided to be brave and she was the one who raved the most about it. Vegetarians will eventually take over the world. I just hope I live long enough. I'm off to England in 3 weeks to get my fill of Quorn which is not available in Canada. ( ) ( __ c\_/ Audrey
