Guest guest
Jessie, Have you ever been to the Dekalb Farmers Market, there in the Atlanta area? I love this place and their cafe had delicious food. They have lots of organic produce and products. Their breads are organic too and the over 200 different varieties are outstanding. The Lemon Apple Walnut Raisen bread is wonderful, as are their bagels, rustic Italian and French Bread and so many more. This year I only grew tomatoes and peppers but so far I've had good luck with both. I use lots of mushroom compost in the soil, buy organic fertilizers and if I have any pest problems I use a natural product called Neem (although I used it as sparingly as possible). I worked at a garden center for eleven years so I'm familiar with a lot of products, let me know if I can help you with anything. -Jess --- On Sun, 7/20/08, deurlooM <deurloom wrote: deurlooM <deurloom Organic Gardening Sunday, July 20, 2008, 11:32 PM Hi, I have been a member of this group for sometime. I wanted to know if anyone has done some organic gardening of their own (preferrably in the TX Weather) and if they have had success with anything in particular? thank you. Guest guest
Oh yeah! I try and go there every few weeks but it gets so crowded on the weekends that I have to be in the mood to go. I'm crazy about their breads too and love that you can buy them in half-loaves so I don't waste any. Do you live in the area? -Jess --- On Mon, 7/21/08, wwjd <jtwigg wrote: wwjd <jtwigg Re: Organic shopping - Jessie Monday, July 21, 2008, 9:34 AM Jessie, Have you ever been to the Dekalb Farmers Market, there in the Atlanta area? Guest guest
I used to live there and everytime I pass thru there or come for a visit, I try and pop into their. I love it. Yesterday we were passing thru and ate lunch there and picked up some items. Their vegetable samosa are very good, especially with their samosa sauce. I brought several home and had 2 for breakfast. Yummmmm they were good and I also had some fresh cherries. Their spices and flowers and everything there except for that fresh seafood are wonderful too. Don't you just love how the ingredients in their breads are all things like you would put in your bread if you were making it and none of that extra stuff. Guest guest
Yes, I do love that about their bread! I was baking my own bread for awhile but after I discovered theirs I don't bother baking it anymore unless I'm in the mood. It's just as good as homemade and pretty affordable. I guess there's another big farmers market south of Atlanta but I've never been there. Are you familiar with it? I think it's just called the Georgia Farmers Market. -Jessica --- On Mon, 7/21/08, wwjd <jtwigg wrote: wwjd <jtwigg Re: Organic shopping - Jessie Monday, July 21, 2008, 12:04 PM I used to live there and everytime I pass thru there or come for a visit, I try and pop into their. Guest guest
It is nothing like Dekalb Farmers International Farmers Market. At the State Farmers Market, it is row after row of farmers who bring their produce, honey, plants, etc... and sell it there. You basically drive along each row and ask them how much each thing is and then buy from who ever you want to there. You pay the person actually selling it. I personally didn't go there often, as it takes more time and doesn't have nearly the selection of the Dekalb Farmers Market, where you have things from all over the world there. A lot of your community produce stands owners, goes there and buys from them in quanity and then sell it at their stand back in their communities. I know that is what the local produce stands here does as well as buy from local farmers, some of their excess. Guest guest
I'm glad you told me that, I think I'll save myself the trip. It doesn't sound like much fun. I would rather walk around and check things out. I live in East Atlanta and we have a local farmers market once a week and where we can buy directly from the farmers. It's fun but the selection is pretty small. Still, I like supporting our local growers. --- On Mon, 7/21/08, wwjd <jtwigg wrote: wwjd <jtwigg Re: Organic shopping - Jessie Monday, July 21, 2008, 2:16 PM It is nothing like Dekalb Farmers International Farmers Market.
