Guest guest
Go Google a picture of a daikon radish. Unfortunatly, I have no idea what it is and my hubby does not remember, in his quest to be helpfull he forgot to mark anything he planted. I pulled one this morning. The one I pulled was fairly small, I think others are a bit larger. They are carrott shaped and white. They smell radishy. I bit into it and it tasted radishy but maybe a bit hotter. The core is redish. If anyone has any ideas on what I have I would love to hear them. Jenn P.

Guest guest
Sounds like a Diakon radish.....which is a white Japanese radish that gets pretty big...as large as small carrots....and has a mild flavor. Good in salads if you like radishes. Nancy C. East Texas - Jenn Parry Tuesday, July 29, 2008 1:30 PM ? about mystery vegetable I have a whole row of something growing in my garden. Guest guest
I think maybe that is what we have. Not sure how we came to have them but, the pictures look pretty similar. Thank you Donna. Guest guest
The reddish core throws me off, it does not sound like any daikon I have seen (daikon is all white) We have grown carrot shaped red radishes (do not recommend them, they are stringy) and carrot shaped white radishes, called 'icicle' radishes. They have nice greens and the core is white though. Perhaps it is yet another radish variety? , " nancy curtis " <nancihank wrote: > > Sounds like a Diakon radish.....which is a white Japanese radish that gets pretty big...as large as small carrots....and has a mild flavor. Guest guest
Jenn what about parsnips? Could that be what you have in your garden? 'Do what thou wilt, but harm none'. Guest guest
I don't think parsnips. The top leafy parts look different. I am thinking the daikon is still closer but am still not sure how I ended up with some to plant in my garden. Guest guest
Do you have regular radishes in the same row? Maybe somehow some of the Daikon radish seeds got mixed into the red globe radish seed package at the seed factory. I have had that happen with other kinds of seeds before. Guest guest
Well, we were supposed to have red radishes and watermelon radishes. I thought they all froze with the corn and tomatos. We had a real late freeze, end of June, and lost quite a bit. My husband figures there was a mix up when the seeds were packaged. Not a big deal now that I am fairly sure of what they are. Guest guest
Jenn, you must live very far north to have frosts in June..... wow... What a short growing season. You sound like you are up there with Katie in Alaska. Have fun enjoying this mystery veggie. Sorry you lost a lot of your garden.
