Guest guest
New member, here. I'm Annie and I'm from Deerfield, MA. For Erin, depending upon where you are in NH you might want to drive down to Greenfield, MA (twenty minutes or so from Hindsale) and check out Green Fields Market. I find it better and more convenient than Whole Foods (formerly Bread & Circus) in Hadley. Hadley is a traffic bottleneck for sure, but Greenfield is a sweet place to shop and right off Rte 91. Guest guest
Welcome and thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, Greenfield is three hours from me. No biggy really, as I seem to have plenty of good health food options in my area. And I do a lot of my shopping online. -Erin , pagilroy@d... wrote: > > New member, here. Guest guest
We do this too. Whenever we go on vacation I always check out any Whole Foods/Wild Oats/Fresh Fields/Trader Joes, etc. in the area. We were in Toronto about 3 years back. We stayed in the Four Seasons and just about right next door was a Fresh Fields!!! We went there to take out dinner a couple of nights! The food was so great especially since the kids were 2 and 1. I could find things that they eat. I've learned since then though I need to leave room in the car for all the food I buy to bring back when we go on vacation. It's worse now though. We have decided to move. We are looking for an area close to a major city like NYC or Philly. When my husband checks out an area he knows there now has be one of those stores within a reasonable driving distance along with a farmers market! Some women collect purses and/or shoes. I collect food and cookbooks! Deb M. Beth Renzetti <elmothree2000 wrote:Funny memory...on our last anniversary, after dinner, dh & i are headed south in Manhattan & see a Whole Foods. Guest guest
My husband works for WFM and from what I know about their produce and grocery buying principles I find this a little hard to believe. They haven't even had coffee in a week in the South Region because they couldn't get it from the growers that they support. If these farms are " not quite organic " then they won't be marked certified organic and " free range " is not a regulated term and can be misused by anyone (not that this makes it right but just fyi) . As for the animals... John Mackey (CEO and founder) is vegan and has started the Animal Compassion Foundation with the goal to route out products that do not meet compassionate standards. http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/issues/animalwelfare/index.html If you do know for a fact that a product is mislabeled bring it to the attention of the company. I know this may sound like a company spiel but from an insiders point of view there is a lot of misinformation floating around and people in the company really care and will take you seriously. Guest guest
then don't come to Staten Island! Whole Foods is in the city & practically a day trip & I've heard there is a farmer's market here for a few hours every so often. Very sad. Guest guest
The Chinese food may have had MSG in it and that cvould easily upset your tummy and you could also have a sensitivity to soy. My Mom is allergic to soy,she had a patch test done and that was the only thing she showed allergic too. A good way to find out is to try a bit of tofu at home in a recipe and see what happens. Her side effects were stomach pains and bloating. Guest guest
I live in Indonesia and tofu is one of my main dishes and I made my soy milk by myself. Tofu is made from soy milk, no MSG in it. Some added salt and natural colour made from tumeric. I agree with Donna, may be the dishes is contain MSG too much, because most of chinese rest add too much MSG. , " DonnaLilacFlower " <thelilacflower wrote: > > The Chinese food may have had MSG in it and that cvould easily upset > your tummy and you could also have a sensitivity to soy. Guest guest
They have a whole wheat pizza crust that is less expensive than Boboli. If I'm stuck and have to grab a bite when I'm out, I can count on Whole Foods to have something freshly made and a spot to sit and enjoy my food and relax for a few minutes. I'm completely addicted to Whole Foods and it has to be the small one by the beach, it has that old time neighborhood feel. I wouldn't know what to do without this store. They have indredible milk substitutes and the prices on these are fantastic. When I say yuppity, some of that 'feel' probably comes from what the community attaches to it, not Whole Foods the store. Zingerman's has the same feel here. I love our People's Food Co-op for the neighborhood feel. They have cheese prices that are out of this world, about half that of any grocery, and a good deli, though nowhere near the size of WF. Guest guest
I really like Whole Foods. In some ways, they are expensive. I could go into one and spend a LOT of money because so much of their stuff--in nearly every department--is so interesting and makes me want to buy and try! I'm just a " hick from the sticks " , and when I enter a place like Whole Foods, I'm often dazzled and dazed by all the variety of goodies that are all in one place and that I would have a LOT of trouble finding elsewhere. When our family lived in east-central Illinois, we had a Whole Foods that DH and I would make a " pilgrimage " to about once or twice a year--2-21/2 hrs away in Chicago. Now, we live just west of the middle of the state and have another Whole Foods about 2 1/2 hrs away in St. Louis (Kirkwood, to be more precise). It's the closest one. Yes, I, too, would LOVE to see a Whole Foods somewhere nearer to us in the middle of this no-man's land that is " downstate " Illinois where we live! The last time I was in the Kirkwood, MO. Whole Foods, I tried out their " hot deli bar " and got a take-away box with a LARGE serving of eggplant parmesan that they were offering. OHHHH! It was the BEST eggplant that I have EVER eaten, outside of the ONE and only Italian restaurant that makes really, REALLY GOOD eggplant parmesan! Tomorrow, DH and I are going down that way to meet our DD and DSIL when their flight from AZ. comes in to the St. Louis airport. I can't WAIT to go to Whole Foods again!!! (Is that crazy or what, that I am so excited to visit a GROCERY STORE???!) --Laura B., in Illinois PS: I, too, love their dry bulk-bins and teas! Guest guest
I can see that they're starting to carry more raw foods which is helpful, but I'm wondering, does anyone know if the goji berries, & yacon root syrup that they sell are truly raw, or not? I don't recognize the brands...
