While I know that prices are rising on everything, due to rising oil

prices and our terrible economy in general, it's the price of bread that

seems to be bothering me the most. Yesterday, I looked for some focaccia

bread and was astonished to discover that an 8-inch square of it cost

$3. Granted, it was fresh-baked and organic, but still. Ouch.

So, I got out my Joy of Vegan Baking and found a decent looking recipe.

I'm going to fire up the Kitchenaid mixer and turn out a pan of it. I

don't know what I paid for the flour, so I can't crunch the numbers, but

it's got to be cheaper. Plus I might as well burn a few hydrocarbons of

my own, or at least some glycogen, kneading it.

I haven't baked bread in a while. It should be interesting.

Cheers,

Trish

This is one of the advantages of living in western Oregon. The weather

is very mild. We have hot spells, but most of the time I can stand to

fire up the oven.

Which I'm going to do this afternoon! I'll let you know how the recipe

turned out.

Cheers,

Trish
