Guest guest
OMG! I will never forget that blizzard and i was quite young then! My Mema (gramma) came to stay with us a couple of days and the snow hit and she was stuck for like 2 weeks. My Father and I loved her dearly, but that was just too much! LOL You could not even walk out the door it was piled so high! Nikki Re: Re: Is this a snownut I see before me? the blizzard of 78....we got around 3'... it snowed x-mas eve.... then snowed again afterwards, like maybe a week later(?)...but this time we only got like..ummm..4 inches maybe...my father was in a hurry, so he just backed out of the driveway without us shoveling it... big mistake since we didn't shovel, just drove over the snow for like a week, it got supremely compacted then like, the next week...it snowed again, another couple inches..but this time it started to turn to rain..but it was still below freezing...ice storm.... so now we had compacted snow AND ice on the driveway (the ice made fer good sledding..but...) then, the blizzard of 78 hit my father truck totally disappeared under a drift.... took us a couple days to shovel the driveway out, but we couldn't get it all, because we had neglected to shovel that other storm out... i remember the plows come up and pushed the snow up over the power lines one house down...you could climb the snowbank and touch the top of the telephone poles... the car kept getting stuck in the driveway from all the snow and ruts all winter... and...it all finally didn't melt until april..... Guest guest
Now that sounds like fun! Tho I was a bit too little to enjoy it at the time. Not to mention being stuck in the house with my Dad and Mema trying not to kill one another. Guest guest
It is a problem when it lasts a long time. In 1963 we had about a foot of snow and then it froze solid - so there was a solid layer of ice everywhere. It lasted six weeks before it thawed. In one way it was quite good because for the first week the school coach couldn't come and we couldn't get to school. My mum's aunt came for Christmas and had to stay until the beginning of March. Luckily we didn't mind - she was lovely :-) Jo - fraggle Friday, June 30, 2006 10:25 PM Re: Re: Is this a snownut I see before me? the blizzard of 78....we got around 3'... it snowed x-mas eve.... then snowed again afterwards, like maybe a week later(?)...but this time we only got like..ummm..4 inches maybe...my father was in a hurry, so he just backed out of the driveway without us shoveling it... big mistake since we didn't shovel, just drove over the snow for like a week, it got supremely compacted then like, the next week...it snowed again, another couple inches..but this time it started to turn to rain..but it was still below freezing...ice storm.... so now we had compacted snow AND ice on the driveway (the ice made fer good sledding..but...) then, the blizzard of 78 hit my father truck totally disappeared under a drift.... took us a couple days to shovel the driveway out, but we couldn't get it all, because we had neglected to shovel that other storm out... i remember the plows come up and pushed the snow up over the power lines one house down...you could climb the snowbank and touch the top of the telephone poles... the car kept getting stuck in the driveway from all the snow and ruts all winter... and...it all finally didn't melt until april.....
