Hi Fraggle

 

I've never heard those tersm, apart from jalopy, which here would

normally mean an old car, but not a banger.

Ah yes - we also have the sausage sort of bangers.... as in bangers 'n' mash *muttering about evil potato molestors*

 

Jalopies in the UK tend to be vintage cars, rather than old delapidated ones.

 

Beaters are the evil people who go and disturb pheasants so they can be shot more easily.

 

Hoopdees is just wonderfully American... I'm sort of intigued by how it came about:-)

AFAIK, hoopdee started out as california slang in the late 1960's(i believe it was spelled differently tho), and entered rap/city streets lexicon in the 90's all across the US..

 

they use the term beater, because thats all the car is, its already broken and messed up, so its your "beater" car..doesn't matter what you can do to it...

 

jalopy nowadays is synomous with a beater...an old car, often seen as worthless...
