Beaters are the evil people who go and disturb pheasants so they can be shot more easily. Hoopdees is just wonderfully American... I'm sort of intigued by how it came about:-) BB Peter
Guest guest
AFAIK, hoopdee started out as california slang in the late 1960's(i believe it was spelled differently tho), and entered rap/city streets lexicon in the 90's all across the US.. they use the term beater, because thats all the car is, its already broken and messed up, so its your "beater" car..doesn't matter what you can do to it... jalopy nowadays is synomous with a beater...an old car, often seen as worthless... mmmm mashed potatoes Peter Kebbell Jul 20, 2006 12:15 AM Re: Re: tad hoopdee out there Hi Fraggle >hhmmm >nope...don't think i've heard that term... >old cars in slang are beaters or hoopdees >tho..a really old term would be jalopy! >bangers here are english sausages..that you'll only see in english style pubs Ah yes - we also have the sausage sort of bangers.... as in bangers 'n' mash *muttering about evil potato molestors* Jalopies in the UK tend to be vintage cars, rather than old delapidated ones.
