Guest guest
I read the book and have also heard Howard Lyman speak many times at vegetarian conferences around the country. The health implications were not news to me, but his book was the first to teach me about environmental consequences of SAD (standard American diet,) I have since read several books by John Robbins and others. " Mad Cowboy " or at least Howard's appearance on the Oprah Winfrey show was the impetus for the Texas Cattlemen trials. After listening to what Howard said on air, Oprah just blurted out, " I'm never eating hamburger again. " It's not that she is a vegetarian by any stretch of the imagination, but she was so moved by his story. Oprah and Howard were both defendents, accused of saying negative things about beef that would hurt the industry. Howard and Oprah won every step of the way, and when the cattlemen appealed the final time a judge threw the case out, saying " You cannot sue someone for telling the truth. Guest guest
Regardless of how innocent they were, it is tragic how much money they had to spend to defend themselves. Our system is flawed.
