Guest guest
Hey Pj, Well as you know I'm sure, you can get dark chocolate which doesn't contain any milk products (if you like it and can find it). I also found a Hershey chocolate liquid ("Hershey Shell") that hardens when you cool it. It's basically made with soybean oil, coconut oil, and cocoa. Might be a little cheaper and take care of an immediate choco craving . I also found an interesting recipe on the net, however I have to test it first. The recipe mentions to melt baker's chocolate (unsweetened, about 4 ounces), to add maple syrup to sweeten it (1/2 to 2/3 cup), vanilla extract (1 tsp), and to add almonds or anything else you like. Then you cool the mixture. I need to confirm however if the baker's chocolate is vegan (milk-free), otherwise scrap the recipe! Later pjsparkles80 <pjsparkles80 wrote: New to this veganism thing...2nd week to be exact...well my weakness is Chocolate....and cookies. Guest guest
Oh wow, I didn't know dark chocolate doesn't contain milk. I was under the impression all chocolate has some type of dairy. I don't care for it too much, but I guess I could grow to like it. It's better than not having any sweet! Plus, I really don't like Tofu, and just had that for dinner. It's all about ajusting especially becuase this is sort of new to me. Any type of chocolate will be good, especially after that tofu. :-) Thanks again, PJ , Freebird005 <vegan_qc_05 wrote: > > Hey Pj, > > Well as you know I'm sure, you can get dark chocolate which doesn't contain any milk products (if you like it and can find it). Guest guest
Hi my name is Suzy, and I have been lurking here a bit... I went vegan for good 6 weeks ago... I live in Denver CO.. Last night my dh brought us each home a slice of Wild Oats Market's Down Home Chocolate cake.... I think it was one of the besst I have ever had, vegan or not... We also LOVE Soy Delicious brand chocolate vegan icecream (lowfat and fruit sweetened too)... http://www.recipezaar.com has some good vegan recipes for cookies and cakes and such - believe... Ener-G Egg Replacer is a great product for replacing eggs in baking.... I think you will find getting your chocolate fix as a vegan is more than doable.. I also like that so many choices have been removed from my mind... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ On Wed, 2 Aug 2006 2:08 pm, pjsparkles80 wrote: > New to this veganism thing...2nd week to be exact...well my weakness is > Chocolate....and cookies. Guest guest
I know your pain! LOL I usually make my own cookies and use a semi-sweet chip that has no dairy. My fav brand is Sunspire Organic Chocolate Chips. They have no dairy, are organic and are not real bitter like a lot of dark choc can be. In the recipe use soy butter and I replace each egg with 1 tbls of applesauce (you can use another fruit if you like) and 1 tsp of baking powder. None of my non-vegan friends and relatives can tell the difference. They love them! Otherwise I go to health food stores or stores like Trader Joes or Whole Foods and read the labels. Dominick's has an organic choc chip cookie that I believe to be dairy-free. But Fraggle once said something bad about Safeway or Dominick's before so I think I am not suppose to buy their brand, so I don't. Geesh! Who would have thought that he had such an influence on me! Guest guest
Hi PJ, Be careful and read the labels though, some dark chocolates do have dairy in them and almost all of Hershey's darks do. There are some dark chocolates that I do not like too, but there are also a lot of good ones out there that are not super bitter if that is what you do not like about them. You're best bet is to look in more of a whole foods or organic type store than a local supermarket. Though you can sometimes find them there as well. And if you find a good one, please do let me know! I always like to try new chocolate. Nikki , " pjsparkles80 " <pjsparkles80 wrote: > > Oh wow, I didn't know dark chocolate doesn't contain milk. Guest guest
Hi Nikki In the UK there is a company called Plamil which has made vegan chocolate bars for years. Until recently they didn't taste too good :-) Nows they have a mint bar and a hazelnut bar, both delicious. Unfortunately I am trying to lose weight so have to have a lot of willpower and limit my chocolate to once a week!
