Kits given out to catch spitters

Imagine if they had given these out in 76 at punk gigs! series of spitting incidents in Barry in the Vale of Glamorgan have led to 100 testing kits being handed out to local businesses by police. It follows five occasions when staff at shops and pubs have been spat at. Taxi drivers in the town have also been issued with the kits by police who are trying to prosecute offenders. The kits allow the victim to swab the saliva which can then be sent off for DNA analysis. Bus drivers in Cardiff already use such equipment. The most recent incident happened at a clothes shop in the town last Wednesday. As well as it being a particularly unpleasant form of assault, there is also the threat of contagious disease Supt Sue Hayes The offender spat at a member of staff and then used abusive behaviour. Police have described the incident as "foul". Fifty businesses in the town, including all of the taxi firms, have been given kits by the police. Supt Sue Hayes from South Wales Police said: "These kits will enable people to take samples should they encounter a spitting incident whilst carrying out their job. "By taking a sample of the saliva, we can send it off for DNA analysis, which will then provide us with the solid evidence needed

to prosecute offenders at court. "As well as it being a particularly unpleasant form of assault, there is also the threat of contagious disease. "We hope that this campaign will act as a deterrent so that this callous assault doesn't happen in the first place." Peter H

Well, lets just say that if there were two schools of thought : 1. It was considered a compliment if the audience gobbed at the band as a sign that they liked you.( I believe The Damned were the first to experiance it possibly at The Roxy or The Vortex?) 2. Just mindless punks being punks - trying to shock, trying to be anti fashion ( setting the fashion ), ah its hard to be different........even harder to shock....its all been done before.
