Guest guest
One of Tunbridge Wells’s leading dining venues, the family* run Woods Restaurant & Wine Bar, known for it’s locally sourced, seasonal food and drink, has introduced a vegan menu in response to growing customer demand. The vegan 3-course £15 menu has 3 choices of starter and main courses and two puddings. The starters are Pea and Mint Soup, Roast Courgette, Vine Tomatoes and Rocket Salad with Pesto, or Aubergine and Ratatouille Timbale with Coriander Oil. The main courses offer Cous Cous with Roasted Vegetable and Basil, Cannelloni Beans with Garlic Roasted Peppers and Chard, or Butternut Squash filled with Wild Mushroom and Thyme Rice. For puddings there is a choice between Kent Strawberries dusted with Sugar or Baked Cinnamon Bananas. “We are supported by a good proportion of vegetarians and many of our omnivorous clientele frequently opt for our non meat dishes,” said Operations Manager Claire Woods, adding, “But a customer wanted to bring a regular group of vegans and enquired about a greater variety of options.” If the vegan meals prove popular, Woods will look to update the menu with the changing seasons. “Too many restaurateurs, provide vegans and vegetarian customers with a token offering - it was a new challenge to design a totally vegan menu, particularly the puddings where chefs are heavily reliant on eggs and cream,” said Claire. In its historic 17th century Georgian colonnaded setting of The Pantiles in Tunbridge Wells, opposite the town’s bandstand, family owned Woods Restaurant with its airy, high-ceilinged interior also boasts 40 covers for alfresco summer dining. Woods is open 7 days a week for breakfast from 8.00am with its bar open until midnight except Sunday and Monday evenings. Weekend brunches are popular with the 20- and 30-somethings. Too avoid disappointment vegans are advised to make known their dietary requirements when booking. Peter H Try the all-new Mail .
