Last night was the final one at CBGB, the (now even more) legendary venue shut it's doors for good sometime after 1am. For a ton of coverage on the last couple of nights there, check out Brooklyn Vegan. Bad Brains was one of the last bands to take the stage, a short video of that is below, and we expect a lot more video (of the last nights with Patti Smith, Debbie Harry, et al) will be showing up as the day goes on. http://www.youtube.com/share?v=lJUn1pslHUY & embed=1Richard Hell (ex-Television) told the NY Times that “CBGB’s is going to be dismantled and reconstructed as an exhibit in Las Vegas, like Elvis. I like that. A lot. I really

hope it happens as intended.” Television's performances at CBGB helped start punk and inspired artists like Patti Smith (who actually wrote the first press review of the band for the Soho Weekly News in 1974). Love the club or hate it, it's a part of the history of this city, and it's sort of a shame they aren't going to reconstruct the stage in another location here. Update: Here's a clip of Debbie Harry singing "Heart of Glass" at CBGB. And they have already taken the awning down!Peter H

As nightfall does not come at once, neither does oppression. In both instances, there's a twilight where everything remains seemingly unchanged, and it is in such twilight that we must be aware of change in the air, however slight, lest we become unwitting victims of the darkness. Hi all, I'm new here. I've been reading your posts with interest. I just had to reply to this one. My brother did a gig there many years ago. And Patti Smith isn't 100 - come on now! (-: I know, I'm just sensitive because I'm one of those older vegans! I'm definitely young at heart though! Beth

Thanks for the welcome! The band wasn't famous or well known, and it

was probably about ten or more years ago I think, but I remember him

telling me that he played there. I don't recall the band's name.

My brother was always cool -- in fact in was because of him that I

first became vegetarian. I recently made the change to vegan.

Hi Peter

That's okay - you made me laugh. I'm not touchy about my age. My mum died a week after her 50th birthday - so the older I get the happier I am. The alternative is not good :-) For Beth - I'm 58.

Hi Jo and Peter,

You are so right Jo, I feel the same! I'm between the both of you at

51, soon to be 52. Well there it's out!(-:

Actually I feel pretty good these days, like I'm entering a new phase

of life. I've gone back and forth from vegetarian to vegan over the

years, but now it's been two weeks without dairy and I feel fantastic!

Many of my aches and pains are gone, I seem to have dropped weight

effortlessly and I can sing better since I'm no longer congested. I'm

never going back! I also feel it's the least I can do to be a peaceful

presence in this world.

One technical question - I hope I am reply correctly to the posts. Do

most of you sort the messages by date? Any other tips for following

these threads. This is an active board!

Thanks for making me feel welcome.

It's good to hear that you are feeling so much better. I'm sure that

will continue.

I don't do anything with the order of my emails, although they are

showing in a different order online the last few days. Hopefully

someone on here will be able to give you more information on that

question.

Hi there Beth,

Firstly, Welcome :)

Secondly, age, well, I will be 60 years old next year (March to be precise) - I still feel "young at heart". I love my music - listening to it and also playing a little bit of guitar. Although I love listening to my favourite artists and groups from years gone by I like to keep up with music of today, and if I like what I hear today, I take them on board as well. I don't want to be a person who just stays in the past and doesn't take on what is happening today! Our pasts are important to us - but so is the future.

My grandchildren help to keep me and hubby young at heart!!!

You are replying correctly :-)

Being on gmail, I don't have a lot of choice in how I sort the threads - it's by subject header - which is a *really* bad way to do it - because if someone changes the header, then I get replies before I get the original posts! When I'm back on my home internet connection and can download the e-mails, I tend to sort by date and time so I get them in the order they were posted... but that's purely personal preference.

BTW - if I haven't already said it - welcome to vegan chat! :-)
