Guest guest
As we have recently been discussing beliefs, I thought you might likethis also from the Bankok Post ( a veritable goldmine of interesting letters!) Many have responded to Imtiaz Muqbil's commentaries by saying God is good and therefore reject Imtiaz's hateful ideas. But, God is who we believe God to be. Greek gods were a community ranging from playful to vengeful. The idea that God must be good is unfounded. I think it is just as likely that God is also cruel and murderous. Certainly the priests of the Inquisition thought as much, as they believed themselves to be made in God's image, then tortured and killed anybody who didn't believe also. Violent and hate-filled people worship violent and hateful Gods. We know this because, as people commit savage acts or expound ideas of hate and subjugation, they hold up a book and shout "my God instructs me to do this". Since most believe we are made in God's image, it would be safe to assume that God is subject to corruption of power also. If a religion believes that there is only one God, then God must be really lonely and cranky. So maybe God is mad because he's lonely and watching us humans having friends and parties and whatnot. Guest guest
Hi Peter Thanks. If I listened to Peter correctly, I think that god was actually a warlike god. It is only over time that people have tried to change this. From a Pagan perspective, you choose the god for the purpose! Guest guest
Hi Jo Well, the Babylonian god from whom the name Yahweh comes (as in the god of the bible) is a storm god. So not exactly warlike - more a weather deity, albeit the not so nice aspect of weather.... Guest guest
Thanks Peter. That put's a different light on it. I'm not sure that it would be considered a flattering light by Christians.
