Guest guest
Hello to the group ... my name is *mona, the * is silent ;-). I'm new to the group and new to opting to go vegan. I look forward to getting to know you and joining those with like minds as the decision to follow a vegan lifestyle , albeit easy for me, is causing others in my life to feel that I have become somewhat " fanatical " . The constant swimming against popular opinion here can be a bit draining and I'm hoping that being apart of a group like this will help be gain some balance. Guest guest
Hello Mona, glad to see you. : ^ ) Yes, I live with my sister who's an omnivore, and when she heard me say I'm abstaining from even honey, she thought I was looney. When I went veg some years ago, my then b/f was totally frustrated with my food choices, because it influenced his daughter to go vegan too, so it was hard for him to buy foods that she would eat. When she was an omnivore, she was already a very finicky eater, so going vegan was for him totally "off." You're not "off" for going vegan, you're compassionate and intelligent. Kudos! The reason people may say stuff is because they are not aware of the ramifications of a meat based diet. If everyone knew what goes on in factory farming, there would be far more of us around. Where are you from? What brought you to veganism? Please, share the wealth. : ^ ) Hoping to hear from you. Until ???. ~Dolores Each moment contains a hundred messages from God: To every cry of "Oh Lord," He answers a hundred times, "I am here." ~Mevlana Rumi Official website of The Bahá'í Faith http://www.bahai.org People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) http://www.peta.org

Thanks for the welcome Jo. I mostly had raw vegetables but then splurged a big slice of homemade peach pie (I'm going off sweets for 2007 and needed a good send off). I don't typically eat cooked foods much anymore but am not totally committed to that just yet. I do confess that my husband smoked a ham for the Yule dinner as my mom always orders us one special from the Ozarks and the rest of the crew gobbled it and my stuffing with the works down, I took a pass. I also made a new cranberry dish from scratch with fresh cranberries that wasn't so bad. And, we always have a HUGE salad -- I have a large family, not obese large, number large...
