Guest guest
Hello, I'm new to the group and new to becoming a vegan. I've almost been thrown off of two spirituality lists because of this topic arising (not even by my own initiation), but because of my strong stand on it, heated arguments have broken out among group members. Because I'm sensitive and have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and cannot stay involved in any sort of uprising, I then decided to try and find others who are on the same wavelength and who would not be offended, so I've joined a few vegan groups. Since I'm new at this, I have a lot of questions, but first I would like to ask if there are any here who are not only vegan and want to eat an animal-free diet, but are also chemically sensitive and need to eat a chemical-free diet. This has always been my biggest problem, as I have tried to remove animal products from my diet before. I'm totally with you about animal rights, the philosophical, spiritual and physical health reasons for all of this. I don't need lectures about that because it is my heart's desire to do this. I just run into so many difficulties, and have found it takes someone else who knows the ropes about chemicals. I have gone to dieticians and nutritionists, all of whom have thrown their hands in the air and said they don't know how to help me with this. Some of them didn't even charge for the appointment because they felt helpless to give me anything workable. I have chronic illness and sometimes am bedridden. Then I'm told I need the nutrient density of meat, milk and eggs to get my strength back, and often that has been when I was still eating those things anyway. I don't believe it, I assure you, it's just that I keep going in these vicious circles because of all my difficulties with food choices. For instance, margarines contain petro-chemicals, so that leave them out. I have found one organic margarine that does not, but it does have a type of sugar that affects me adversely. Citric acid is most often now a chemical from refined sugar, and this is showing up in most packaged foods, including the organic ones. On and on it goes until there is nothing left for me to eat except singular, individual fruit, vegetables and grains where I would have to do all my own cooking from scratch, and I usually don't have the energy or stamina for it, nor do I 'yet' have the recipes. So, I'm hoping to find someone else who has been through this and has found answers. Thanks so much, Dorie

Guest guest
I am sorry to hear about that, I can relate. I supposed that your body is just asking you for whats simple and natural. if god/nature didn't make it, then it doesn't want it. this is good and althought I can't call myself a raw diet person, I try to incorporate lots of foods in their whole form. this includes lots of fruits and vegetables daily. I didn't know that about citric acid. Did you hear? they are trying to make it so that they don't have to disclose all the ingredients in a food. in other words People don't have a right to know what they are eating. if I find that email, I will send it. as far as help, everyone hear in this group is very supportive. and the moderators are very informed, so stick around. -anouk , " Dorie Swanrose " <d.rosemont wrote: > > Hello, > > I'm new to the group and new to becoming a vegan. Guest guest
Hi Anouk, Thank you, and a big thank you also to Mona, for the nice welcome! If they ever do pass a law that removes the ingredients label from food, then I really would have to eat single fruits and vegetables, and never buy anything in a package. I got so accustomed to convenience foods, even the organic natural ones, because they are such time-savers with all my fatigue issues, but they are becoming more and more infiltrated with chemicals. I don't think most people have a clue about citric acid. One of the health supermarkets in my are had banned the sale of all items containing hydrogenated oils, which I thanked them for, and then I asked them if they also knew about citric acid. They sold it in big bulk bins and also most pre-packaged organic foods are beginning to have this for an ingredients. What I learned is that citric acid is refined sugar treated with sulfuric acid. Guest guest
Hi Dorie, and welcome. I think the only way you can approach this is to eat food that you have made from scratch, from basic organic ingredients. Lentils are easy and quick to cook, and can be mixed with chopped veggies to make a stew. If you put plenty of celery in you will not need a ready made stock for it. It can take a while to sort out a few recipes but it is worth it. Have you been to a naturopathic nutritionist (dietician)? I went to one, after suffering from heartburn and pain all my life. I was put on an exclusion diet for six months - and now know what I can and cannot eat. It may be that your sensitivities will diminish if you can eliminate the food that you cannot tolerate. No matter what anyone says, there is no need for meat or dairy for anyone. You will get more chemicals from these items than from vegetables, because the animals eat the vegetables and concentrate all the poisons/chemicals from the vegetables, and these are in the flesh. Guest guest
well..sorta... most citric acid is produced by growing mold on a sucrose solution this is refined out, and lime is added and then to this they add sulphuric acid..... Guest guest
welcome and greetings Dorie have you considered a raw diet? even tho it might be difficult for your situation, as many of the recipes take a bit of preparation, at least the ones you see in the "cookbooks" Dorie Swanrose Jan 8, 2007 12:42 PM New Member Needing Much Help Hello, I'm new to the group and new to becoming a vegan. Guest guest
Hi Dorie, Apart from the obvious raw diet ( organic ), you should be able to eat plenty and get plenty of protien. If you try and stay organic if possible, and eat plenty of legumes/pulses/tofu, may be best to limit the ammount of bread/wheat/gluten.Eat plenty of fruit and veg, make stews/curries ( careful with spices )/chilli, and make sure to add some lentils ( which take around the same time to cook as root veg ) with brown rice and you should have a hearty meal.Certainly will be a filling one! Good Luck ,and I hope your condition improves. The Valley Vegan..........Dorie Swanrose <d.rosemont wrote: Hello, I'm new to the group and new to becoming a vegan.
