Guest guest
Hello everyone, Recently, I joined another Y! group that I thought was pro animal rights. The name of this group is very deceptive, I soon found out. Anyway, some ppl there have said that PETA kills rescued animals. Then I went to a website that supposedly has the documentation proving it. Is it true, does PETA really kill animals? And in a broader spectrum, how do we find out what the ARs groups are *really* doing with our donations, and most importantly, with the animals they claim to protect? Guest guest
Hi Dolores There was some discussion of this a few months ago on the list, and I must admit I can't remember the conclusions! But it might be worth searching the archived posts at . FWIW, I gave up on PETA after they spent large sums off money running a campaign against Judas Priest for wearing leather on stage, without bothering to find out some basic facts first... as most Priest fans know, two members of the band have been vegetarian (and one vegan) for well over 20 years, and they always wear pleather on stage... I get very annoyed with organisations which run campaigns before checking the basic facts! Guest guest
I have alredy read something like that, but I can't remember in wich website. Youtube has a lot of anti-PETA videos, some of them very persuasive. Peta has done some terrorism acts, as many say. I don't worry about that, because there's no PETA in Brazil...our animal-rights organizations aren't as aggressive as PETA Silas. Guest guest
I agree, they seem aggressive to the mainstream. their attention getting publicity tactics sometimes turn people off, they do some good, but their name has a bad connotation, so much so that some vegans don't want to be defined or associated by them. thier past actions, throwing pies in peoples faces for wearing fur coats, have made some people more rebelious into wanting to have the " right " to wear a fur coat. I believe that different approaches could be used. , Silas Cordeiro-Pascoal <cordeiropascoal wrote: > > I have alredy read something like that, but I can't remember in wich website. > > Youtube has a lot of anti-PETA videos, some of them very persuasive. > > Peta has done some terrorism acts, as many say. > > I don't worry about that, because there's no PETA in Brazil... > our animal-rights organizations aren't as aggressive as PETA > > Silas. > Brazilian Vegetarian Society coordinator for Espirito Sancto state > > Dolores <doloresgllamas escreveu: > Hello everyone, > > Recently, I joined another Y! group that I thought was pro animal > rights. Guest guest
on PETA there wa s a huge story on some PETA workers in north carolina who euthanized some animals and then hid them by tossing them in a dumpster. while, i deplore PETA's actions, and this obvious lack of compassion, on the main, i think PETA got demonized... Because they are in the forefront, and jump at any media opportunity they can, anything and everything they do is immediately suspect, and of course any f*ck up is going to be leaped on and paraded around PETA is for lack of a better word, aiming for the MTV generation, and i would guess, the myspace generation now they are tapping into the blipvert American culture of " entertain me " news and public interest stories... their goal is to bring attention to the plight of animals, by flashy and gimmicky promotions, and demonstrations like that.. does it always work? of course not... but, that is the form in which they have decided they need to work to get peoples attention... *shrug* i think PETA should come clean, and have a campaign that basically sez " thousands of unwanted pets are killed please help us change this situation " or something like that unfortunately, PETA comes across as hyprocrital, and this leaves them open to every corporate shill out there, every person who doesn't want to dare give up his murder culture.... but..PETA unfortunately is no different then any other number of shelters across the land... they do run no kill shelters in VA i know.... fraggle >Dolores <doloresgllamas >Jan 10, 2007 7:45 PM > > allegations against PETA > >Hello everyone, > >Recently, I joined another Y! group that I thought was pro animal >rights. Guest guest
I've been wathing something in youtube (in order to improve my english) and I've seen some videos that show how PETA sneak into Labs to save animals. Other short movies show PETA buying bombs or any armament for fighting against fur, animal testing, etc. I'm not sure if it's true. Remember the AETA polemic... Anyway, as I've said, there is no PETA in my beloved Brazil... there are few vegans here and animal-rights organizations are not similar to PETA. Guest guest
Hi Silas, I have a friend in Brazil, who is a very dedicated vegan and runs a vegan website http://www.fotolog.com/por_toda_vida/ Her name is Belihnda and she is an angel of a person. I am learning a little portuguese through reading her website every day! Her purpose is to educate someone each day through the things that she writes about on her website. I am not sure is she is near you but she is in Rio. -anouk , Silas Cordeiro-Pascoal <cordeiropascoal wrote: > Anyway, as I've said, there is no PETA in my beloved Brazil... > there are few vegans here and animal-rights organizations are not similar to PETA. I wouldn't classify sneaking into labs to save animals as "terrorism", as there is no "terror" involved in the activity. If it's true about the bombs, then I'd agree that is terrorism, but I can't help thinking that if it was true, then action would have been taken by governments, police and the media about it - animal rights isn't popular, and if they could honestly publicise that PETA were buying bombs without getting sued for defamation, I have no doubt it would be all over the media. I wouldn't say that youtube is the best source based on some of the stuff that ends up on there! BB Peter
Guest guest
anyway, if you type PETA in youtube's search toolbar, you'll find more videos against than pro. common people, unfortunately, do believe in youtube.
