Guest guest
…Not a Tampon, Not a Pad: Feminine Hygiene's latest Innovation in 50 years Kitchener, Ontario, Canada – Just like other women, Francine Chambers used to plan camping trips and vacations around her period. Uncomfortable, unreliable feminine hygiene products frustrated her. History repeated itself years later with her daughter's own disappointment in the lack of reliability and cost of conventional products. Feminine hygiene became a " pet peeve " and a problem to be solved. Today, the mother-daughter team leads the menstrual cup category with their newly designed menstrual cup, The DivaCup™. The company is on the leading-edge of the US $2.3 Billion in 2001 (expected $2.7 Billion in 2005) feminine hygiene market and is experiencing healthy growth at 168% (2004). In the feminine hygiene category where there have been very few innovations in over 50 years, The DivaCup™ represents a breakthrough product for women. " With all the state-of-the-art conveniences Western society has developed, it baffles me why we are still using out-dated feminine hygiene concepts, " explains Francine who had the concept of a menstrual cup in her head for over 25 years. " I knew that I had to offer this to other women and that it would be my lifelong passion. " After 10 years of successfully selling menstrual cups worldwide, the pair redesigned the device, making structural improvements and manufacturing it out of medical grade silicone. This material is the same type of silicone used in knee replacements and heart valves making The DivaCup™ comfortable, clean and long-lasting. Medical grade silicone has been safely and extensively used in medical devices for over five decades. In 2000, over 55.9 million women in the US alone are monthly users of disposable feminine hygiene products. The 41 year menstruation span (11-52 years) creates billions of pounds of disposable feminine hygiene products being " dumped " into the environment. In 1998, the annual figures for the U.S. were estimated at 12 billion sanitary pads and 7 billion tampons. " Since disposable feminine hygiene waste poses a continuing environmental issue, we are committed to decreasing this serious eco- footprint by offering The DivaCup™. We truly believe that menstrual cups are the next generation of feminine hygiene, " states Carinne Pickering who began the company with her mother after completing an Honors Bachelor of Business degree from the prestigious Wilfrid Laurier University. Because the menstrual cup has never been linked to Toxic Shock Syndrome, women are putting their concern for health to the forefront by purchasing this leading-edge alternative to tampons. A strong underground word-of-mouth campaign is taking place worldwide, as women are telling other women about the The DivaCup™. The DivaCup™ is available at natural food stores, upscale grocery, specialty drug stores throughout the U.S. and Canada. DivaCup Quick Facts > It's no wonder why every woman dreads " that time of the month " … Ö co-opted toilet paper from a public washroom as a temporary measure Ö planned a vacation around your period Ö avoided white pants for that one 'special' week of the month Ö done a supplies hand-off with a girlfriend while the dates weren't looking Ö cautiously tucked the telltale string into your bikini Ö accidentally pulled a mystery object from your purse in front of a curious male audience Ö scuttled to the washroom to survey the leak damage after a sudden 'surge' Ö clogged your toilet with " flushable " feminine products Ö left a party with a jacket tied around your waist The Ultimate in Feminine Protection- The DivaCup™ offers women convenience and peace of mind. Worn internally, The DivaCup™ is positioned low in the vagina for a secure fit and easy removal. Designed to hold up to one full ounce, one can swim, run, backpack, travel and even wear it overnight without ever worrying about leaks. No More Hassle- The DivaCup™ eliminates the need to spend time searching for a bathroom, hiding tampons or pads in pockets, or constantly worrying about leakage and unpleasant odors. Also it works for light as well as heavy days. Also, there is no more guessing as to which kind of products to use on certain days or nights. Convenient- With nothing to buy and nothing to throw away, The DivaCup™ is convenient and worry-free. Easy-To-Use - The DivaCup™ is the most convenient way to deal with menstruation. It only requires emptying 2 to 4 times a day depending on flow and can be worn for an entire cycle up to 12 hours at a time, even overnight. Design- The innovative DivaCup™ design features easy-grip ridges, convenient flow measurements and a, soft, flexible stem for comfort and easy removal. Designed to hold one full ounce (30 ml), The DivaCup™ is capable of accommodating even the heaviest flows (an entire average cycle is 3 to 4 ounces or 90 to 120 ml). Health and Safety- The DivaCup™ holds the U.S. FDA (Food and Drug Administration) 510k Medical Device Number and the Health Canada Medical Device License. Diva International Inc. is also ISO 13485 Certified, which ensures the highest quality in production, packaging and distribution of The DivaCup™. Toxic Shock Syndrome- The serious and sometimes fatal Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS) is caused by toxin-producing strains of the Staphylococcus aureus bacterium and has been linked to the use of conventional, rayon-based tampons. Eco-Friendly- In 1998, 7 billion tampons and 12 billion sanitary pads and their packaging were disposed into landfills and sewage systems in the U.S. alone. With landfill and pollution problems on the rise, The DivaCup™ is committed to reducing the serious eco-footprint of feminine hygiene by offering The DivaCup™. http://www.divacup.com/

Guest guest
has anyone seen that new commercial (from a pharmacetuical company) that says now you can elimanate your period with a pill! I have only seen it once or twice, but I think that it is not not natural. they show modern type women in that commercial I guess I'm old fashioned. Guest guest
Hi Peter, women who are on oral contraceptives still get their periods once a month. However, their amount is decreased, for example a woman on the pill will get her period for only day maybe two. a woman on nothing will get her period for five days (or more or less depending on the age). The way it had been for millenia. at least that is what I hear from my friends! I've never taken any. This new pill would eliminate it allthogether. I am not one to say good or bad, maybe I need to learn more, but magazines are implying that in the future, girls won't have periods. Or, can rid of it, if they want to go on Holiday or vacation. -anouk , " Peter Kebbell " <metalscarab wrote: > > Hi Anouk > > Excuse my ignorance here - what with being male, I'm not all that familiar > with the topic... but isn't that what contraceptive pills do? > > BB > Peter > > > On 27/02/07, zurumato <zurumato wrote: > > > > has anyone seen that new commercial > > (from a pharmacetuical company) > > > > that says now you can elimanate your period > > with a pill! > > > > > > I have only seen it once or twice, but I think that it is not > > not natural. > > > > they show modern type women in that commercial > > I guess I'm old fashioned. > > > > They don't really give a reason for eliminating periods > > just convenience. > > > > I guess or maybe i should > > " ask my doctor " > > > > -anouk > > > > > > > > > > To send an email to - > >
Guest guest
i could see the positive side to this new pill. -fewer (unwanted) children in the world -a solution for women with anemia or endometriosis (painful periods). but I personally wouldn't consider it because I don't know the long term studies on this. I can see it being popular, because the old fashioned period is seen as an inconvenience. understandable in todays world. I consider myself a (WILD) product of evolution and will remain so for now. -anouk
Guest guest
Hi Anouk I went to the doctor for the pill when I went on my honeymoon, because my timing would have been bad. Ever since the pill was invented it has been possible to use it to miss or delay a period. Having said that I don't think it a good idea to delay more than one.
