Guest guest
Anyone here built a home electronics archive with movies, radio shows, games, ebooks etc., ? With hard drives becomming cheaper adn cheaper, a few people seem to be doing this. Please share your experience and any related web-sites in this regard. The main reason some us wish to create home earchives are for preparation for post oil era. More about it can be learned by joining: arkbuilders_org Thank You. Guest guest
Hi VijayIn a post-oil era, you won't have any electricity to run your computer, so won't be able to access any information on the hard drive! The only way to experience that form of entertainment without electricity will be the theatre and live music! Personally, I prefer to keep " regular " DVD and CD type disks, simply because they are more stable than hard drives (and you lose far less information - maybe one or two films if it gets damaged in any way). I suppose a hard drive back-up is OK as a back-up, but I wouldn't rely solely on a hard drive to store all my favourites. However, CD/DVD media also don't last forever. The post oil era will occur gradually and not suddenly. Hence, for the most part, one can still expect power supply to continue. All this info. is further used to prepare for the life without power/oil completely. Vijay
Guest guest
hi vijay welcome back! you had disapeared for a while! I am not technically oriented. This worries me too. Where to back up or archive photos? I know someone who had NO pictures of his three year old little girl, Ever since she was born he had been storing them in his computer without ever bother to print them. (he would just email them to people) then water from the hurricane got into his computer and they where lost forever! I was surprised when the ipod stored all of my pictures, but I am putting on a CD just in case. All 500 of them! -anouk , " rvijay " <rvijay07 wrote: > > Anyone here built a home electronics archive with movies, radio shows, > games, ebooks etc., ? Also, lastly you can EMail a few of these pictures to close friends or relatives who live in other places. That way, if anything happened to your PC, the pictures will still be safe far away.
