Guest guest
What lovely weather we had over the weekend. Yesterday we went to Stourhead in Wiltshire. The gardens are beautiful and we had a good walk. On Saturday we did some gardening, housework and shopping. What did you all do for the weekend? I visited about 10 gardens on a free self-guided garden tour. At one of them, the owner was an art teacher who had taken his students to Italy every summer, so it had Italian influences such as citrus in pots and cherubs. Also the owner had made thin concrete columns throughout the garden with forms he built himself, as well as a pizza oven and a domed gazebo. Another backyard garden had lush, vigorous vegetables growing as well as huge compost piles. Next week is another of these megatours, with 40-plus gardens to choose from. It's lots of driving, and at almost $3.50 a gallon of gas, not as cheap as we're used to. Also visited one of the Water Temples -- maybe a peculiarly Californian artifact? They're huge gazebo/temples where you can climb steps, then look way down and see water rushing by down below, on its way from the source (in the mountains) to the water treatment plant. Ate my first ripe raspberry of the season from my garden, as well as a handful of strawberries, a few peas, some kale, and green garlic. It's almost time to pick the oregano before it flowers, and to cut the lemon balm way back before it takes over. Lots of seeds to plant this week! Guest guest
That all sounds interesting. I am intrigued by the Water Temples too - I had never heard of them until now.
