Guest guest
I missed the photo that featured a stuffed animal. I assume it was not an actual dead animal that had been stuffed (if it was, never mind), but a fake, a child's toy. If it was a fake, I don't understand the objection. Guest guest
Hi Yarrow It wasn't a child's toy - it was a couple of tigers and a lion, set up " fighting " - they looked like genuinely dead, stuffed animals. I agree that child's toy type fakes would not be at all offensive! BB Peter - <yarrow Sunday, June 03, 2007 7:27 AM stuffed animals? > I missed the photo that featured a stuffed animal. Guest guest
I was at a restaurant along the highway that was filled with numerous taxidermiedanimals. They were a collection from a dentist/big game hunter. It was an amazing collection and the animals were well taxidermied. That being said, what a waste of living things, just for the sport. He could have taken up tennis or raquetball? But he decided to blast every living thing that he could just to show off to his friends. I guess that I just don't understand that's all. I mean no offence nor to be judgemental. After all, to each his ownI guess. I just don't like it that animals are treated like some worthless carcass to be used for whatever tickles one's fancy. I've kept the picture because it's humorous to me. There's all these animals fighting and I am standing in the middle all relaxed. metalscarab <metalscarab wrote: Hi YarrowIt wasn't a child's toy - it was a couple of tigers and a lion, set up"fighting" - they looked like genuinely dead, stuffed animals. Guest guest
[[ It was an amazing collection and the animals were well taxidermied. Many of them were in fact found dead. I was a biology major in college and I collected a lot of dead animals such as birds that died of natural causes during the migration; we used them to take measurements and to practice mounting ("stuffing") them. The data gathered that way is important to preserving wildlife, NOT destroying it. Of course there are "sports" hunters who have the animals they shoot mounted, but you can just as easily practice taxidermy on an animal that is already dead. There are people like Roy Rogers who even had their dead pets "stuffed."
Guest guest
I can never understand the liking for stuffed dead things. I always find it a bit yukky, and spooky. Guest guest
[[i can never understand the liking for stuffed dead things. I tried to explain that we did this in the interests of science, and that we never actually killed an animal, we found them dead.
Guest guest
I don't find autopsies yukky - unless you preserve them and keep them as ornaments afterwards, of course.
