Guest guest
http://news./s/nm/20070707/us_nm/california_goats_dc More than 240 goats die in California trailer wreck Sat Jul 7, 5:12 PM ET SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - More than 200 goats needlessly suffocated to death in an overturned livestock trailer near San Francisco because police would not let their herder free them, their owner said on Saturday. " They were screaming, screaming, screaming to get out,' said Terri Oyarzun, owner of Goats R Us, an Orinda, California, company that rents goats for grazing brush that poses fire hazards. " They died because the police wouldn't let them out of the trailer. " In all 243 goats died on Friday after the four-tier truck trailer transporting them flipped when the truck's driver made a sharp turn on a street in San Rafael, California, a town in Marin County north of San Francisco. Police at the scene were so concerned with controlling traffic and preventing another accident that they disregarded pleas by the goat's herder to free the trapped animals, which could have been corralled away from traffic, Oyarzun said. " Those goats didn't have die, " she said. " It wasn't necessary. We had herding dogs. " About 150 goats survived, Oyarzun said. A police spokesperson was not immediately available for comment. When I see the price that you pay I don't wanna grow up I don't ever want to be that way I don't wanna grow up Seems that folks turn into things that they never want
Guest guest
That's horrible!! What a nightmare for the herder! It reminds me of an article I read where scientists dumped a bunch of rats into the water to see how long they would swim before starting to give up. After something like 12 hours, they rescued the rats. Later, on another day, they dumped all the same rats in the water again and saw that they swam 24 hours this time (my numbers might be a little off - I don't remember exactly)! It was hope that they'd be rescued again that kept them alive. But they weren't. The researchers let them all drown that time. Even after they'd gotten their data. So depressing. On a sidenote, this is my first post! Hello! What a great group! Many thanks to the moderator!
