Guest guest
Hi People! I am a brand new Vegan. As part of my job, I must be away from home for extended periods. What kind of inexpensive restaurants could I go to? Are there any restaurant chains that are acceptable to us? I would like to avoid special ordering (ie: hold everything and just give me the bun) I want a good meal. Any suggestions? I am desperate here. I dont want to live on just cereal while away. Thanks in advance. Dave Find a job, post your resume. http://careers.

Thanks in advance. see <www.vegetarianguides.co.uk> for veggie guides to london, britain, europe and further afield. written by a member of the vegan society governing council, so very vegan friendly. italian restaurants are always a good bet - spaghetti napoli, avocado vinaigrette, fruit sorbets, etc. greek is often not bad - combine a few starters. indian is good, but watch out for dairy, though most use oil rather than butter ghee nowadays. there are also vegan chinese restaurants springing up all over the place. for breakfast ballast baked beans, mushrooms, hash browns, grilled tomatoes, etc, are all generally available in hotels, boarding houses, greasy spoons etc. it really isn't difficult once you get the hang of it. you could also have a look at the recipe section of <www.ivu.org> which has 2000 vegan recipes from all over the world, which may give you more ideas as to which dishes are likely to be ok. another good buy is the vegan passport, 2.99 GBP plus p & p from the vegan society - useful for ethnic restaurants in this country as well as those abroad. if you're heading for a particular town or country, put a message on the list and see if anyone knows any particularly good places there. london is a vegan paradise nowadays, but many other places are waking up. all best, vanessa
Guest guest
Cranks. Most indian restaurants. Baked beans on toast is a decent standby Get a copy of " Vegetarian Britain " . ISTR it says which are veggie and which can serve vegans. qwasi_evil wrote: > > Hi People! > > I am a brand new Vegan. As part of my job, I must be > away from home for extended periods. Guest guest
The best suggestion I can make is for you to join another list - PlanetVegan. The moderator and quite a few members live in Canada, so I suspect you'll get a lot of help there. Guest guest
*madly waves her Canada flag* Hello! West Coast Canuck here! ) Tim Horton's (I think it only exists in Canada) does really excellent veggie soups and sandwiches. Check them out for a good relatively cheap (and warm!) meal. Wendy's does some really yummy salads, including some in pitas, as well as baked spuds with a variety of toppings (go for the broccoli... hold the cheese). umm... let's think. Ethnic places are usually really good. Most Chinese restaurants now have " meat-like " dishes made of soy, so you can still get your sweet and sour fix - Indian food is good too. I'm trying to come up with fast food places for ya though. Subway, of course, no cheese on the veggie. Some Subways have veggie patties now (if you want a warm sub) that I haven't tried but my Dad swears by. Burger King also does a veggie burger, though I'm not sure how it is. A veggie soup is often a safe bet, but ask the servers to make sure its not done with chicken stock - many places do for better flavour. Hope this helps! -Kate qwasi_evil Mon 05/11/2001 01:30 Cc: Re: New Vegan- Where can I go out to eat? I don't know if there are many Canadians that get this list. I will be in Winnipeg Manitoba. Guest guest
I'm sure the marinara is. If you catch the lunch buffet, its all a good deal and there's lots of different salad stuff too. You can always ask about the desert pizza. Its mighty yummy... *basks in the rememberances of childhood* And they have the best veggie pizza going (in my opinion) cause they veggies are nice and big. You could always order it without cheese. I know it SOUNDS boring, but I think its good. I don't know about the crust though... hmm... On that note, Panagopolous has introduced a meat-free pepperoni substitute that my dad and I both approve of. ) -Kate qwasi_evil Wed 07/11/2001 02:11 Cc: RE: New Vegan- Where can I go out to eat? What about Taco Bell etc. I cant eat McDonalds fries anymore because they soak them in beef tallow. How about onion rings at BK? Guest guest
Why don't you read *Raw Power* Stephen Arlin. He's a body builder who eats just a raw food diet. He's a really big guy full of muscles!!! Maybe incorporating more raw food in your diet would help, especially fruit - or certain kinds of fruit and fruit juices. Check out www.rawfood.com. Guest guest
It all depends on genetics when it comes to that stuff. If I ate a raw food diet, I would have no money for a gym membership. I live near Hudson Bay. That is very far north. Look on your map. Just a bunch of meat eaters up here that think killing is a normal part of life. --- Jane Cuming <jane.cuming wrote: > Why don't you read *Raw Power* Stephen Arlin. Guest guest
Since when was buying fruit expensive? A banana is about 19p. However, a sandwich from, say, M & S is £1.99. Eating this sort of diet is so cheap! Just think of all the *crap* that doesn't go in your shopping trolley! I mean, how many pennies does it cost to buy an apple or two??? I do understand about where you live though but I live in the biggest farming county in England (Devon) which suffered badly in the Foot & Mouth crisis. I like to stand out from the crowd! I was telling my friends about buying vegan cruelty free products yesterday and they all sat around the table listening to me. We can do so much good *educating* others! Good luck whatever you decide! ;-) Its all about personal choice at the end of the day, and being vegan is the best choice of all!!!!!!!!!
