Guest guest
Hi All! Where I live, soymilk is almost $3 Canadian for about a litre(just over a quart). Tofu is unbelievably expensive too. Even counterfeit meat is way up there. I think the price needs to come down in order for poorer folks to live the vegie lifestyle. Even the ones with money will look at the difference in price and say 'Hey, real milk is cheaper...why buy the other stuff.' If the price came down, even people who eat animal products would be more willing to try the more healthy vegan products. What do you think? I understand the demand is not there for some of these products, but there has to be a way. I have a feeling that in the states, the products are cheaper. What are your prices there? Guest guest
At about the same time that I was becoming veggie through choice, a friend of mine at Uni (I found this out only recently) was veggie to save money. So it obviously matters. Alas, being vegan, if you replace stuff directly, is probably more expensive. Which will put people off. But such is life. qwasi_evil wrote: > > Hi All! > > Where I live, soymilk is almost $3 Canadian for about > a litre(just over a quart). Tofu is unbelievably > expensive too. Guest guest
Limeys? I live in northern MB. Prices are insanely high. The town I live in only has 1600 people and it is 3 hours away from the next town. Might be why the prices are so high, but they werent much lower in Winnipeg. Soy milk is easily twice the price of regular milk. Tofu is a fairly new addition to the store up here(only one store in town) The price is very high. I can live without it though. --- EBbrewpunx wrote: > it depends on the shop and such > here, meat prices are heavily subsidized, so dead > animal meat and heavily processed food is real cheap > soy milk runs about .99 to $2.00, depending on brand > and place of purchase...tofu is about the > same...silken tofu is generally the cheapest...tho, > i try and stick with organic firm .... > any " quick " microwave or processed vegan food is > insanely prices..they start at ;like $3 and go up > from there.. > > do you live in manitoba? > > wot's the price like fer all you limeys? > fraggle > <qwasi_evil wrote: > > >Hi All! > > > >Where I live, soymilk is almost $3 Canadian for > about > >a litre(just over a quart). I don't know how vegan food compares with meat and milk - cos it's ages since I've even looked at it, but I spend about £90 per week on food and cleaning things (for three people). Guest guest
Jane > £90???????? OMG! Why so much money? Do you eat a lot of fresh produce or > do you buy a lot of branded processed foods? I only ask because I eat a lot > of fresh produce and my shopping bill is never like that! Can I be so nosey > as to enquire why??? LOL - I live in Guildford! which is okay if your well-off, but not otherwise. I don't buy anything processed at all, apart from the odd pack of tofu, and organic frozen peas. We buy loads of fresh organic fruit and veg, organic baked beans, dried beans, lentils etc., quite a lot of organic nuts and rice. I buy herbal teas and some decaff coffee and tea, and soya milk and cream, and spring water. We make most of our own bread. That's about it really (apart from a tub of Swedish glace) and some Truefree biscuits. I presume it's better where you live. Jo --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
