Guest guest
What is the deal with the fruitarian argument? I cannot see the logic. Do you know how little protein is in fruit? The average sedentary person would find it difficult to get the proper amount of protein without becoming emaciated, let alone someone as active as myself. Is there anyone 'Vegan' to the point where they will not drive because they might run over bugs or splatter them on the windshield? I think that if you are going to give up honey for the sake of the bees, then quit driving for the same sake. I am still thinking about this one. Another point: I am very heavy into weight lifting. The recommended amount of protein for someone as active as me is 0.8grams/pound of weight. For me this works out to be 130 grams or more per day. A banana has 1 gram and an average apple has 0.3 grams. Where would you get the protein? It should be noted that this amount of protein is necessary (for me) to avoid muscle break down(catabolism) Don't tell me I can get by with 20 grams or something. What are your thoughts? Guest guest
Hi, Have you read Stephen Arlins book "Raw Powwer "? You can get enough protein from fruits like bananas and nuts. I'm very active and eat mostly raw food/fruitairian diet and feel good and the RDA standards are exagerated. Kim - qwasi_evil Tuesday, December 18, 2001 4:49 AM Why Fruitarian? Guest guest
I have Stephen Arlin's book *Raw Power* not because of the body building side of his book (LOL!), but because of the nutrition and general well being stuff. I too eat a mostly raw food/fruitairian diet. But to answer Dave's question, the best book to read is *Nature's First Law - The Raw Food Diet* by Arlin (as mentioned above), Wolfe and Dini. Guest guest
I am a firm believer that the RDA is underexaggerated due to the sedentary society we live in.(ex: Active people need more than sedentary people) This is, of course, just me. I didn't think fruitarians ate nuts. I am not really well read on the topic. If fruitarians can eat nuts then I am sure you would get enough protein. --- kimberley1 <Kimberley1 wrote: > Hi, > Have you read Stephen Arlins book " Raw Powwer " ? Guest guest
It was never my point to argue that it is good for you. I just thought it was a neat point that bugs are killed by cars AND the honey industry. In that respect, is one better than the other? I too am in the process of eliminating all simple sugars from my diet. SPECIAL NOTE: Did you know that fructose is now considered one of the most complex sugars (although simple in its chemical makeup)? It takes a totally different path when absorbed by the body. It must be 'changed' by the liver before the body can use it. Therefore, it should not spike insulin levels like table sugar. That is just another healthy vegan argument. Please correct me if I have interpreted my info wrong. Guest guest
Yes, that is true. Fructose is suitable for diabetics because it does not significantly raise the blood sugar levels. It's also concentrated, so it takes about half the amount of fructose than white sugar you would need for a recipe. Just a thought to keep in mind when you buy - it might seem expensive otherwise. BTW, do fruitarians use fructose? Dawn SPECIAL NOTE: Did you know that fructose is > now considered one of the most complex sugars > (although simple in its chemical makeup)?
