Guest guest
Hi all... I'm new to this list - I've been Vegan for around 8 years now and am currently trying to find info on detox programmes (dietary). I bought a liver detox book by someone called xandria williams, and whilst it contains some useful info - a lot of the recipes include meat and fish. Has anyone come across any useful literature for vegan diet detox? Would be grateful for any further info, etc. Cheers, Graham.

Guest guest
I recently went on a detox diet. I was aiming for 3 weeks, but I quit after 1 because I couldn't take the food anymore. Therefore, I am not the model detox teacher, but I did learn a few things. I was eating 80-90% raw fruits and veggies. The other 10-20% was raw seeds and nuts (unsalted), whole grain bread (no wheat or white), whole grain pastas, brown rice. For drinking, I could only have water or freshly squeezed juice. I tried to drink 1-2 glasses of carrot juice per day. Now this may not sound so bad, but the diet I went on specified no white sugar (not a problem), no white flour (hence the whole grain bread), no meat, dairy or eggs (obviously), but the killer was NO SALT. I am a salt addict and eating no salt for a week was my personal demise. Trust me, I tried to find creative ways to make this food better, but whole grain pastas and brown rice just aren't good without salt! I did use some olive oil sparingly for salad dressings and for the pasta. I will say that this diet helped me to think about what I eat a lot more. Being vegan does not necessarily equate a healthy, balanced diet. I used to eat a lot of foods in excess and not enough of others. I'm now much more aware of the foods I eat and I'm trying to do at least one meal a day completely raw. I've also cut out all soft drinks, tea, etc. and am drinking only water or freshly squeezed juice. If you don't have a juicer, I really recommend investing in a good one. If you juice every day, you will feel so much better! I did feel better after the week, but I also had a cold during that week. I think I will try the detox thing again another time. Trying to detox and recover from a cold at the same time was way too much for my body to handle. Plus, being sick and having to stay at home all day made me notice the food deprivation much more. my two cents, Dawn , " grahamwestwell " <dharmabum@t...> wrote: > Hi all... > > I'm new to this list - I've been Vegan for around 8 years now and am > currently trying to find info on detox programmes (dietary). Guest guest
Hi folks Just a thought on this detox business (sorry, I've forgotten who started it now - but whoever it was....) - have you checked for allergies? Just wondering 'cause I don't see that any detox diet is going to do much detoxing if you're allergic to part of it! :-) BB Peter --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Guest guest
Hi all again, Thanks for the info Dawn: I recently went on a detox diet. I was aiming for 3 weeks, > I was wondering where you got the guidelines from? i.e. if there's any decent web pages or books you've come across? I'd like to know what the particular cleansing qualities (if any) of different foods, liquids, herbs, etc. are - as you say, being vegan does not necessarily mean it's healthy. Guest guest
Dawn As far as I know, if you are detoxing you should not be eating pasta or bread. You should be eating vegetables and brown rice (no pasta!), fruit and fresh juices, preferably apple and carrot. Also you should always go careful on the salt. Guest guest
Jo, I follow a raw vegan diet. I didn't make that comment. I'm currently on 100% *living* foods, so bread and muffins (surely they're American foodstuffs anyway???) don't come into my daily diet. I'm sorry this subject accidently came onto your list. > Janey > > You can't detox on bread and muffins! >
