Guest guest
Sounds to me like Mr. Cohen of notmilk.com has lost his credibility. I saw an article by him go through group a few months ago - it caused a heated debate on that list. Many people doubted the truth of this article and wondered whether his motives are less than pure. I drink Silk all the time and won't stop drinking it because of a questionable argument like this. Here's a copy of the article: BILKED BY SILK Dear Friends, I am about to blast SILK marketing reps for being liars and conducting business in a manner intended to deceive people. White Wave is a company lacking ethics. I do not like being lied to. I thought that Monsanto was the enemy, and White Wave, the good guy riding a white horse and wearing a white cowboy hat. Boy, was I mistaken. When the good guys lie, they cease being good guys. Buy White Wave products, and you are actually supporting the dairy industry. Read on... I have got to exercise extreme care about what I write for two reasons. First, if I make up something about any company or industry, I could be doing them irreparable harm, and a lawsuit might result. Damages could destroy all of my work and jeopardize my family. You can just imagine how the dairy industry would love to silence the Dairy Education Board. Fact is, tens of thousands of things have been posted about milk and dairy products on this website, and I've yet to be sued. Now to the deceivers who market SILK. On March 26th, I wrote and posted this column: notmilk/message/521 JUST FOR THE RECORD On February 15th, I read a press release issued by America's largest soymilk processor, SILK. The press release claimed that Good Housekeeping magazine (GH) performed a blind taste test between Silk Chocolate Soymilk and Hershey's Chocolate Milk, and that 100% of the people tasting both products preferred the soymilk. Here is what I wrote on the 15th of February: " AMAZING TASTE TEST RESULT Independent taste tests conducted by GH offered consumers blind tasting of both chocolate-flavored SILK brand soy milk and Hershey's chocolate milk. One hundred percent of consumers who tasted both products preferred the chocolate Silk, according to Vicky Melen (612-375-8541). " After posting that column, I called GH and was told that no such consumer test was performed. What did happen was that GH food scientists performed their own in-house taste test. They were the ones who preferred SILK, NOT consumers. MORE DECEIT Should you still be in possession of a container of SILK, carefully check the carton. At the bottom, in small print, are the letters DE. Have you ever heard of DE? Neither have I. The presense of those two initials means that the product has been produced and processed by Dairy Equipment. That was a new one for me. Wouldn't you imagine that the SILK people could have added that information to their container? White Wave (they own the SILK line) did over $80 million dollars in business last year. They've had bovine proteins in their soymilk on at least one occasion. Will it happen again? Well, they warned us with their little DE insignia. Don't say I didn't warn you too! Guest guest
That is one of the arguments of the raw fooders. And one that I tend to agree with. The amount of dirty wasteful " industry " needed to process wheat, soya milk, etc etc...especially on such a huge scale is gross, yet really we could just walk about butt naked picking figs and grunting at each other. Guest guest
They use the same equipment - as does nearly every other soy milk producer. The point is this article disparages Silk (white wave) when the problem is common to nearly any vegan product. The equipment is cleaned of course, but there's always going to be trace particles of dairy products in every soy milk made with dairy equipment. This is not exclusive to Silk, and most vegan products are made on shared equipment with non-vegan products. It's a fact of life. , EBbrewpunx@c... wrote: > could be fun tho > > and yes, silk does use the same equipment to mix soy milk and dairy products...depends on how sticky ya want to to be i guess > last i heard, silk was looking to replace their equipment > > > " Angie Wright " <angiewright@n...> wrote: > > >I don't mind the fig -eating and the grunting > >-----butt I don't want to frighten people !!!!! > > Angie > > > > > >- > > " pctalking " <pctalking@h...> > > > >Wednesday, February 13, 2002 2:43 PM > > Re: Not Milk - was re: The Spurious Foundation of > >Genetic Engineering > > > > > >, yet really we could just walk about butt naked picking > >> figs and grunting at each other. > >> > >> > >> Dr P.C.Talking *grunt* > >> > >> , " Angie Wright " <angiewright@n...> wrote: > >> > Is he correct tho' about the machinery used to make the soya milk ? > >> > Angie > >> > >> > >> > >> > >> > >> To send an email to - > >> > >>

Guest guest
Thanks for the info I had never considered this Will plamil be the only one that doesn't then ? It is a vegan company (those in US probably won't have heard of it ) Do the others all have DE written on them to show the dairy connection ? Here's a copy of the article: yeah, the article you sent didn't give me reason enough to boycott Silk...HOWEVER,the fact that 1. There is often dairy found in their product, 2. They were just bought by one of the largest dairy companies, and 3. They buy their cocoa from slave labor companies. I completely boycott Silk. Shame, too,it used to be my favorite soymilk. Guest guest
As far as I know Plamil are a purely vegan company, so their products would not be contaminated.
