Guest guest
Hi Pastiche > do you boycott movies, television shows and theatre that the > actors wear leather as part of their costumes and eat meat in ? > do you boycott musicianst who use animal products in their > instruments? Would it have any effect on the way movies are made or bands play. Incidentally, most of the music I like has no need of animal parts in the instuments, and I always try to encourage drummers in the bands I play in to use Remo heads. On a similar note, do you refuse to talk to do business with people who eat meat? > do you boycott oil paintings because they are sized with rabbit > skin glue (which all oil paintings are; its not usually rabbit skin > anymore but another animal protein in leiu of). Do you boycott the > museums and galleries that prosper from the art that has been > created by the hides of mammals? I'm not into art! > have you stopped driving on the highways that have spliced > through once beautifull migratory herd feeding grounds. > have you stopped driving yet ? I live too far from where I work (no, I can't move because house prices are too high and there isn't much choice of jobs). I need to work to live. I do something like 5,000 miles per year which is purely necessary journeys, and my car does around 40 mpg. The cost of converting to more environmentally friendly fuels is three times the value of my car, and there isn't anywhere within 50 miles which sells any better fuels. > have you taken down your house fence that creates unnessary > boundries for animals? When the neighbours get rid of their pet cats that kill the wildlife in the garden, and the owners of the field that backs onto our garden stop hosting pheasant shoots, I'll consider it - until then the garden is a haven for local wildlife. > have you moved back into the cities, where you belong, so that > as much natural land can be kept prestine for future generation > of animals and humans? Whadayamean " back " ? I've never lived in a city. No dwelling place is " natural " , cities even less so. Also, with the polution and lack of greenery in towns life expectancy is shorter. > do you boycott plastic garbage bags that animals can choke on? There is no way of disposing of rubbish in our local area without (UK councils are not good environmentally). All that can be recycled is - I also run the recycling campaign at work! > have you stopped wearing dyed clothes ? I brought all of my current clothes before I was vegan - I haven't yet thought about buying any more. > have stopped wearing bleached cothes? As above. > have you stopped wearing clothes? A choice between clothes and death in the winter (in fact, probably in summer as well!) > have you stopped printing your newsletters on paper? I don't print newsletters! > have you recycled and stopped buying furniture ? Haven't brought furniture for years. > have you supplied all your energy needs with hydrogen fuel cells > because the bi product is pure clean water? have you stopped > buying hydrogen fuel cell generators because the bi-product of > producing them is polluted water and air? I think this must be an American thing. In the UK we get electricity supplied by the national grid - the choice is electricity or no electricity! > have you changed your lifestyle back to a time before the > discovery of fire in order to keep this earth as clean as possible? Interesting that you pick on this, but not on bone china! > Have you declined that vital medicine that was created using > animal products? I haven't taken any medicine beyond paracetamol and herbal tea for about 15 years! > have you turned down the animal organ transplant that could > have saved your daughters life? I don't have a daughter. > how far do you go? How about you. Do you insist that whenever your photgraph is taken a digital camera is used? Do you avoid buying from companies who have histories of cruelty to animals and/or humans? (Obviously not if you buy GM products!) Do you use an ethical bank like Triodos to ensure that your savings are not used to support unethical causes? Do you campaign for realistic improvements in the treatment of animals and / or humans, or do you spend your efforts trying to promote things like GM without a full understanding of the impact of those products on society and environment? Do you ensure that the things for which you are campaigning do more good than harm, or do you just go with what you are told by the organisations running the campaigns? I think these issues are more realistic ways to focus " how far you go " than whether you use combustible material. BB Peter --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Guest guest
pastiche27 Are you trying to say that if you are not 100% perfect, you should be 100% bad? or not try at all? Or are you saying that because we have already done wrong things we should carry on doing them. What do you think we should do if we cannot be 100% perfect? I presume this has some link to the gm query. Other than your point of supplying food to the world population (which I have already addressed in a previous email) what else makes you think it is a good idea, and why?
