Guest guest
Hi, my name is Werner and I just joined this group. I am 54 years old, 5'6" and 137 lbs. and a vegan for many years. And I can still run 5 miles a day ... ten on a good day. I know I can run circles around any family member ... (-: Being a heart patient, I have given up all salt, grains and animal products. I eat only fruit and vegies. It hasn't been easy, but I would be dead otherwise. I have learned many things about nutrition in the past few years.. .... now if only I could convince my wife. Guest guest
Hi Werner Welcome to the list. I wish I could run even a mile! Come to think of it, I wish I could walk properly - I've been off work this week with a bad back. No doubt I'll be back to normal soon. Jo my name is Werner and I just joined this group. Guest guest
Hi Jo, it would help to mention that I've been running for about 24 years now. I started back when I was thirty years old. My wife one day announced that she and the kids ran to town and back ... about 4 miles. Something about that boast got to me and I went out and bought a cheap pair of running shoes. The next day, I went out and couldn't even do a half mile. But I kept at it and within a month, I was able to run a mile. I also read many books by famous long distance runners and I tried many brands of running shoes. My favorite shoe is the Nike air soles. Helps with shock absorption. When running in cold weather, I dress in layers, use a wool hat and heavy mittens. I have run two marathons ... one in 30 deg. weather, which I completed and my second one in 90 plus deg .... that one I had to walk part of it just to survive. But to me running is a barometer of my health. If I can't run, then something is wrong. But by eating only fruits and vegies, I seem to be doing quite well. I look forward to many more years of running .... In Health ... Werner. .........most recent picture ... after a five mile run on a very cold morning Hi Werner Welcome to the list. Guest guest
Hi Janey, you know what they say ... a good run or walk always begins with the first step. Unless you go outside and take that first step ... be it a good run or a good walk ... you'll never do it. There are many a morning when I have to talk myself into getting dressed and ready for a run... but I do it anyway and always feel good about doing it when I get back home. My wife keeps saying that I never stick with anything for long ... but she is continually amazed that I've stuck with running for over 24 years. Must be addictive ... that running .... (-: But it is a better addiction than a bad habit. Many people say to me ... "I can't run... ", but then I say to them ... you can always walk. But you have to begin ... turn off the TV and get outside .... DO IT !!! Good luck and good to see you here ... Janey. In Health ... Werner. Guest guest
Hi Janey, because of my running and a generally good vegan diet for the past 20 odd years, I really don't have any "before" pictures that look much different. The only thing that has changed in me is that my hair is getting gray. One picture where I didn't look good was when I first went raw and lost a lot of weight. But now, my weight is back to a more normal point ... 137 lbs. this morning after my run. And I look different in that posted picture, because my hair is shorter and I am not wearing glasses. But I think I'm holding up pretty good for 54 years. Plan on looking good in the future too ... In Health ... Werner.
Guest guest
I live right by the sea so I enjoy walking along by the coast. I'm very lucky that I can leave my house and have somewhere interesting to walk. The coast (Babbacombe) where I live has terrific views all the way round to Portland Bill (in Dorset) so I always get inspired to walk on a beautiful day. I don't know if I'll ever become a runner, but I certainly enjoy walking. ;-) Janey x - Werner Saturday, February 23, 2002 10:15 PM Re: New to group.. Guest guest
I heard that the epithet derived from the city's mouthy politicians. But I might have heard wrong. ----- Is Chicago more windy than any other city ? Angie -- Ian McDonald http://www.mcdonald.me.uk/
