Well cats can be fed vegan and it seems that they can thrive, now that supplements have been available in the form of Vegecat for several years.

Not sure about the big cats though, but cats are related.

The problem is what you are suggesting is a form of animal experimentation which many of us would also find unethical.

I would like to know if there are any carnivore animals such as lions etc being fed a vegan diet, if not then there should be, proving a truly vegan world is possible!

Interesting question, but I'm not sure I'd want to see a "truly vegan world" where naturally carniverous animals are fed a vegan diet. I know my views on this may seem a bit harsh to some, but wild animals are a part of nature, and I don't think it's good to mess about with nature if it can possibly be avoided. There's all sorts of delicate balances in populations, environment, etc. etc. which could really be harmed by removing animals from what they do naturally.

Now, animals which have already been taken out of their natural environment - such as domesticated cats and dogs, I see as a very different scenario - they are already living a life which is removed from their natural surroundings, and I therefore don't see any problems with feeding them purely vegan diets (provided of course that they can live on it - as I don't look after any cats or dogs, I can't comment on that, but vegan cats and dogs do seem to manage OK).

Aside from the fact that some of us believe that certain animals are

omnivores.

Simon, you've either been on the 'sauce' or reading too many old

Jehovas Witness booklets (you know, the ones with all the animals

living in harmony & smiling sweetly at each other that always get

left in Dr's waiting rooms)

Assuming that your totally bonkers proposition is a possibility, how

would one then convince the various invertebrates, bacteria and

fungii which live on dead animal matter that their diet is ethically

wrong? and what would happen to the heaps of animal carcasses that

would build up if the vegan world project were successful?

If the predator niche were removed from planetary ecosystems how

would population control amongst herbivores be maintained???

Forgive my sarcasm but methinks you've not properly thought this one

through...

Cheers Graham :-)

nonsense. Lions and whatnot NATURALLY are carnivores,to take that

away from them is unnatural. What should we do,post " no hunting "

signs on the African plains so they can't take down antelope? If

you're referring to lions in zoos and circuses,well...I have issues

with them being there to begin with,so...
