I don't know the bugs' actual place of origin (ie indoors or out) but I know

they would nail you when you flipped on a light switch - the real cockroaches

would scurry their yucky butts across your counters and the palmetto bug armies

would fly down and land in your hair - ughghghg!!! Actually, I don't think they

worked in teams but it sure seemed like it. I'm horrible in that I will flip

over every piece of furniture in my home to kill a cockroach (too many years in

Florida and too many childhood memories in a very old wood house that had LOTS

of cockroaches - they don't come into only dirty houses). As far as other bugs,

I'm was more of a lizard and little snake kinda gal. I love the green

chameleons and we had these ones that had curly tails that would stand on

whatever they were on and bounce up and down like they were doing pushups - they

were cool. Unfortunately if you had cats your lizard population would dwindle

pretty quickly. Crab season was weird too - you'd wake up in the middle of the

night and hear this scratching and there would be a big 'ole crab cruising

around the house (we had a pool and a dog door on the patio surrounding the pool

and they would end up in the house every year). This was up near west palm but

when I lived down in Miami I remember they would cross the roads to go breed and

there were times of the year when they were all over the roads and they would

put their claws up to protect themselves and pop peoples tires. It was so gross

becuase they were all over the road and there was no way you could swerve to

avoid them all - I was young and I still remember the sound - it was horrifying.

in SoCal, we had big ol alligator lizards....i was so proud when i caught one

once, it was about 9 inches long, and i held it up, beaming...at it turned and

bit me and wouldn't let go....i screamed and tore around the yard for wot felt

like 3 days with it clamped on my hand..til it smiled and let go....

That is the funniest thing I have ever heard :-)) Did they hop in your pool, too? You know crustaceans are just aquatic bugs, pretty much. They are arthropods just like insects and spiders.

Sorry. I'll shut up now.

Always in the pool - you would find three or four in the morning cruising around

the bottom - we would always scoop them out and set them back outside.

That is *so* cool! What do crabs eat, anyway? You think they'd figure out that there wasn't much in the way of good eatins in a swimming pool... That is so amazing how they find the water like that!
