Guest guest
B " H Is that the same stuff referred to as " vegemite " in the Men at Work song? It's not very popular here in the states. I've never tried it, but from what I've heard, I doubt I'd like it since I HATE salt and salty tasting things. I don't add salt to ANYTHING I cook or bake -- not even bread. Debbie Hi Fraggle > marmite > *shudder* Yeah - I'm not alone! I thought I was the only vegan who had an utter contempt for that stuff :-) BB Peter
Guest guest
I do like Marmite but I don't like Vegemite, we can get both here in the UK. They don't taste exactly the same to me. Guest guest
Hi Debbie Neither do I - never have. Everything tastes much nicer without it, doesn't it? Jo >> salty tasting things. Guest guest
That's the australian version of it I believe, which I've never tried personally, so I can't vouch for its tastiness.... Shut up, fraggle. Before you even say it.... --jojo - " compugraphd " <compugraphd Sunday, July 14, 2002 1:00 PM do YOU have a salt tooth???? was: Sigh > B " H > > Is that the same stuff referred to as " vegemite " in the Men at Work > song? Guest guest
Hi Werner / Debbie ( & anyone else who's asked....) Marmite was created as an early experiment in biological warfare, but was banned from use in warfare by the Treaty of Six Mile Bottom very early on because it was just too dangerous. They later discovered that, amazingly, some people liked the taste and have been selling it as food ever since. Seriously though, it's a very strong tasting black substance, very salty. Yeast extract, apparently. I believe if you do a search on the internet you can find a couple of fan sites!!!!! Including one with poems and odes to Marmite....
