Guest guest
Anybody ever experiment with eating clay? After reading this article i think i might try eating clay Dirt as Medicine Why would animals want to lick clay? Bill Roundy is a retired rancher. He remembers a generation ago, when he lived in Utah, that he and other cattle ranchers, learnt a valuable lesson by watching their cattle. Whenever a cow got sick and went off her food, the ranchers would turn her out to fend for herself, as they could not afford to throw good money after bad. But, they noticed that, time and time again, the cows would return after a few days, fully recovered, and ready to feed with the rest of the herd. It wasn't long before these ranchers discovered how the cows were recovering. The sickly cattle would take themselves across the desert to clay banks, and feed on them until their health returned. When the ranchers saw how easy and cheap was the solution, they transported clay to their sick cows - a practice still continued today. Free- ranging cattle dig into ancient clay sub soils to access clay and so have no need to be supplemented in this way. [Mahaney,WC Maximilliano, B Hancock, RGV Aufrieter, S and Perez, FL 1996. Guest guest
Daft name: jetpostman, Sir, We are in interesting territory. Monkeys of the Amazon come down from the high trees to eat clay ostensibly to counterbalance the toxins from eating the rich leaves of the forest canopy. WE can expect than in a few more or less million years the value of clay to balance nutritional error may hit cognizance. Guest guest
I for one am a dirt eater. I believe that we have become dangerously carried away with cleanliness. I highly recommend " Primal Defense " (essentially just concentrated dirt germs) to anyone new to raw foods. It made the transition much easier for me. Guest guest
Sometimes pregnant women will crave clay (and other non-foods). So, people do eat it. There's a word for it but i can't remember it. To each his or her own but there is just no way that I personally would ever eat dirt. I do think there is a clay supplement though. Hope everyone had a great day. Cold and windy here! Hugs, Tone a.. Perhaps you are thinking of " bentonite clay " often used in cleanses...Believe it or not at the last healthshow I went to David Wolfe told everyone that once in awhile, they should go find a forest area and just " eat dirt " ! Guest guest
Jah. It is called " pica " behavior. Most books describing the behavior will probably state that it is " abnormal. " With a little scrutiny, we can see it is the body's desire for, most likely, some mineral (or minerals), that evokes this behavior. Or maybe it's just because we animistically ascended from mudskippers and we are suffering flashbacks. :-) regards, tev goodkarma <karmacharmer wrote: Sometimes pregnant women will crave clay (and other non-foods).
