Guest guest
Hello everyone, I have a few questions that I was wondering if anyone could answer for me. First, can I fast while breastfeeding? I'm guessing that I would still have to drink water, but I didn't know if it would hurt to go just one day with out food. I want to speed up the detoxification process but I don't want to hurt my milk supply, because Hebe's diet still consists of like, 75% breast milk. And second, will a raw food diet help my scoliosis? I have just about THE WORST case of it that my chiropractor has seen. She said that it will never be 100% straight again but that she could help it a little. I haven't went since I went raw because of the lack of money, but for the few months I was going there was no improvement, & I was hoping that maybe the raw food could do some kind of miracle for me. -Angie Rose _______________ Persistent heartburn? First, can I fast while breastfeeding? I would say not. The baby gets all of his/her nutrition from you, and babies need nutrient-rich milk, because they are growing fast. Anything that is in the milk comes from you - directly out of your own bones, if need be (to your detriment, if you aren't nourished). I don't know how much harm or good a one day fast while breastfeeding really does. I don't claim to be an expert. I have fasted several times for more than a week, and I breast-fed all my babies... but never both at the same time. That's the extent of my knowledge. IMHO if you are going to fast at all, wait until your child is weaned - maybe use it as a reason for weaning - and do it for a week or more. I really wonder if a one-day fast does much good. I know lots of people do brief fasts like that, and I respect that they have their reasons, I just don't know what their reasons are. Good luck, Laura
Guest guest
Since nutrients and other things (good and bad) are passed through breastmilk, wouldn't detoxing while breastfeeding be detrimental for the baby? All those toxins will leave your body any way they can (mucus, urine... breastmilk) so i don't think it's a good idea. You could express (is that the word?) some breast milk. Plus the more you pump the more you make. Get enough for a day or 2 if possible and maybe do a quick fast. I would think to keep expressing while detoxing but don't give that milk to the baby. BTW, i have no kids but i do read alot ) Just so you know i am NOT speaking from experience. peace and good luck to you and your babe! nikki Hello everyone, I have a few questions that I was wondering if anyone could answer for me. Guest guest
Dare I suggest, Angie, that eating raw is detoxification in itself. Thus if you were the mother of my babe, I would be at ease with a quick cleanse, although would favour the long term route of sticking with a 100% raw food diet. The raw food lifestyle is a detoxification diet which can go on for many years. The problem with that syndrome is that craving cranks in much faster without the fasting. When you leech the body to nourish a fast... ... in the short term I suspect little harm. However I cannot pretend that I think that the starvation that goes on in Africa helps the new generation there. Guest guest
I am a breastfeeding mother, and am still trying to go all raw and it's very hard!!! Some days I just feel like I need MORE. As for the fasting while breastfeeding, I wouldn't do it. It's hard to know which studies and facts (no matter how backed up they are) are the right ones anymore. It seems every study is contradicted by a different one these days! I personally would wait until I'm done breastfeeding to do and fasting until the baby is weaned. I would like to fast as well, but don't want to take the chance. My daughter is 14 months, and nurses quite often, even though she LOVES raw broccoli, oranges, grapefruits, carrots and avocados. She didn't actually eat the celery I gave her, but did lick off the hemp butter. My son was weaned by 13 months, but I can't seem to do it with my daughter. The whole crying thing is just too much stress with everything else going on around here right now. My point: I don't know if I would use fasting as a reason for weaning your baby - but that's JMHO. I would wait until the baby is ready, or you can do it without much of a fuss. Guest guest
> I would wait until the baby is ready, or you can > do it without much of a fuss. I'm breastfeeding and seriously considering a modified fast. It is going to be at least a year and a half before my last baby is weaned, and that is only if I don't get pregnant in the mean time. I have been nursing for 4 1/2 years (3 children, not all the same child.) Even though I nurse almost exclusively for one year, several times through the night, and I am relatively old to be having babies (41) I am still very fertile. I'd like to fast to get my cravings under control. I am nursing a 2 1/2 year old, who I'd like to wean within the next couple of months, and an almost 1 year old. I may undertake a juice fast as soon as I get the baby on more solids. No, it isn't the ideal, but I really feel my body needs a jump start before I can go totally raw. ~Wendy
Guest guest
Mel, Did you start on the raw food diet before you got pregnant or while you were nursing or what? I ate so much crap while I was preg ( lots of meat, LOTS of cereal w/ milk, cake, doughnuts, ect.) and I didn't find out about healthy eating till about a month after I had my daughter and even then I didn't know much and just became a vegetarian & cut out sugar. I became a vegan a few months after that, after reading more. And then just about a month ago I went totally raw. I have been feeling better and better but Hebe ( my daughter) gets sick like once a month, and it lasts for about a week or two each time. I'm just curious if youve been experiencing the same thing. I just can't think of anything but that maybe since I've been slowly detoxing, she has been getting the toxins through my breast milk. But I don't really know, I haven't had the chance to read anything about it yet. I'm not going to fast, & I'm DEFINATELY not going to wean her just so that I can fast, she's only 13 months and she is currently nursing about every hour, and is actually nursing as I type. -Angie >I am a breastfeeding mother, and am still trying to go all raw and >it's very hard!!! Guest guest
I started on the raw food diet while nursing. Victoria has gotten a few colds in the last year, but has healed from them all without meds - something I don't want to use because my son didn't and is hardly ever sick! He did have the stomach virus once this winter, but no ear infections or any other crap people get. I have been sicker this past year more than ever, but I know it's due to stress and lack of sleep - something I'm trying to change but the stress just keeps on piling up! Husband left, moved to Pa, fighting for my kids, tormenting from the ex, had to be tested for STDs, Mom got cancer, overbearing sister, blah blah blah. It goes on and on. Had mastitis the other week - came on real quick and got real bad. Better now, but still. Then on Saturday we got in a car accident! Anyway, I figure there can't be anything wrong with eating more fruits and veggies and cutting out the meats. Victoria doesn't seem to be affected by this change - and I didn't do it very gradually - I just kinda hopped into it. Make sure you're getting fruits and veggies of different colors is something I heard so I try to do that in hopes to get all the nutrients we need. My daughter is 14 months and nurses about once every 4 to 5 hours - although last night she slept 8 hours straight! She's walking and running and has great skin tone and seems happy. Wish I could tell you what to do, but I would stick with it personally. If you were eating the bad foods, your child was getting them as well and would be going through a detox too. That would be a good thing, correct? As long as it's a slower one and she's getting nursed frequenty - which she is being so often. My opinion is you are doing the right thing. Sorry for the long post. Shutting up now.
