I lean toward fruit in the first half of the day and veggies second half. You can fill in with sprouts, seeds, and nuts if you wish rusty - " Stephanie " <fastkitty <rawfood > Friday, April 23, 2004 9:00 AM [Raw Food] completely new here! > Hi Everyone- > > I am completely new to this and need urgent direction! > Was a vegan for years, but always a vegetarian for over 30 yrs. > I am fed up with the way I eat, diets, middle age drop in energy, > weight gain....yuch! > > I am overwhelmed by all the info on the net about raw food diets! > Want to get started NOW!!! but want to do it smartly. Guest guest
Stephanie, First of all, I dropped the " three squares a day " mentality. I'm 113 days into the RFL (raw food lifestyle) and I find that I eat or drink something raw at least every two to three hours going through a normal day of activity. So if you are nursing on a 10 to 12 hour shift, then you need to take a well thought out raw food regimen with you " on the road. " This means that you have to prepare things and bag them up ahead of time. Being hungry on the job with nothing to eat is a very disappointing place to wind up if you're trying to stay on the RFL. I am not into creating raw food combinations that mimic cooked foods, so that narrows down my prep time considerably. You can put together bags of raw carrots, celery, apples, etc, and a thermos full of gazpacho, raw juice, etc. Also throw in the knapsack raw almonds, cashews, brazil nuts, etc, and keep them in your pocket to nibble on during you rounds. Go to www.mercola.com and do a search on grains. It will a real eye opener. As a matter of fact, he's got a lot of info on everything having to do with bread, and Peter's last post has a very good raw foods book recommendation so reading is another place to start from. The way I understand it is that I'm not going on a diet but changing my lifestyle so that it encompasses more living food which energizes all aspects of my life. Certainly something to consider given the number of diets being touted right now that really don't seem to have permanent results that generate real trackable data. I know that's a very broad generalization, but anecdotal feedback in a magazine about how good a diet doesn't work for me as the source is questionable. I have a list of over 50 positive items that occurred in the first thirty days after I went totally raw. Some of them are too personal to list here, being of a medical nature, but other things were that I lost all the joint pain, now I sleep better, no more depression, I can smell things again.... all sorts of really cool stuff that I never even imagined would come back or go away.:>) Oh, I forgot to mention all the energy. Hope this helps you. Guest guest
Steph, Best to start with a fast to get rid of the toxins. People vary but there is no point in rusing too much with the transition to 100% raw. There are good books to read on fasting and raw food. The single best is probably Raw Secrets by Frederic Patenaude. I say probably only because I have never read better.
