Guest guest Posted May 8, 2004 Report Share Posted May 8, 2004 Barb, It most definitely does taste raw. The smoking process does kill 'germs'. It is perfectly safe to eat. The biggest problem is determining what is farm raised smoked salmon and deep sea smoked salmon. Only the salmon that was 'free-ranging' in the deep cold ocean has high levels of omega 3's. Alaska does not allow any farm raised salmon in the state. The fishermen are allowed to catch the spawning salmon only for a period of days to insure that enough reach the spawning grounds. This kind of salmon has a very deep pink color. It is very healthy. It is an acquired taste. I had to learn to like it. I can simply eat one piece when I eat it.
