Tommorrow night is our montly 'book date' at the local Barnes & Noble.

My husband and I stay for a few hours wandering around the store, reading

and end the evening with a book purchase for each of us.

I would like to get a book on natural hygiene or raw foodism. Not a

cookbook, (as I imagine I could find a great many recipes online, and I

already do a lot of experimenting on my own in the kitchen), and not

something I could read fully online. The only actual paper books I own

regarding natural hygiene are the Fit for Life books, which is where I

first heard of NH. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Autumn :)

Hi Autumn-

I used to work at Shangri-la a Natural Hygiene Spa that is now defunct

in Bonita Springs Florida.

I doubt Barnes and Noble regularly stock the Natural Hygiene Books -

you'd probably have to special order them.

I like anything by the Boutenkos. 12 Steps to Raw Food, Raw Food

Family, Eating without Heating are all great books.

As with anything, the really good books are not readily available in

the mainstream market.

I hope this is helpful.

Blessings - Jan

I recommend " The Science and Fine Art of Food and Nutrition " , by

Herbert Shelton, which is available from Barnes & Noble, though I

don't know if it's only available for purchase on-line, nor that it

would be stocked in each store, it may need to be sent to a local

store--it's a classic:

http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?

userid=6F22T4xeON & sourceid=00398551267871483341 & bfdate=06%2D24%

2D2004+20%3A21%3A06 & isbn=0914532391 & itm=44

Here is a listing of all books by Dr. Shelton that are available

currently from Barnes & Noble:

http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/results.asp?

WRD=herbert+shelton & userid=6F22T4xeON & sourceid=00398551267871483341 & b

fdate=06%2D24%2D2004+20%3A21%3A06 & cds2Pid=946

The Hygiene book that is most commonly available at book stores,

since it has been a best-seller, is " Fasting Can Save Your Life " , by

Herbert Shelton.

The other book on nutrition that I like, and is not available to

read on-line, by Dr. Shelton, is " Superior Nutrition " , and it does

not appear to be currently available from Barnes & Noble.

Another of my favorite books is " The Natural Food of Man " , by

Hereward Carrington, another classic, and available from Barnes &

Noble, at least for purchase on-line, at these two url's:

http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?

userid=6F22T4xeON & sourceid=00398551267871483341 & bfdate=06%2D24%

2D2004+20%3A21%3A06 & isbn=1564596834 & itm=17

Unfortunately, there are not a lot of current books that I would

recommend, on the subject of Natural Hygiene, or nutrition. I do

like " I Live on Fruit " , by T.C. Fry and Essie Honniball, and it is

available sometimes apparently through Barnes & Noble, but

apparently not currently.

A couple of books about Hygiene/health/raw food by contemporary

authors include " Awakening Our Self-Healing Body " , by Arthur Baker:

http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?

userid=6F22T4xeON & sourceid=00398551267871483341 & bfdate=06%2D24%

2D2004%2B20%3A21%3A06 & isbn=1883989256 & itm=1

And " Perfect Body " , by Roe Gallo, not available currently from

Barnes & Noble, but available from:

http://www.roegallo.com/PB2index.html

Also, " A Way Out " , by Matthew Grace (health, Hygiene, raw

food, " incurable " illness), not available currently from Barnes &

Noble, but available from:

http://www.matthewgrace.com

All of these books are available from time to time through

www.amazon.com or www.abebooks.com.

Here's an intriguing new book, available through Barnes & Noble, I

don't know how close it is to classic Hygiene, it's

called " Neohygiene " , by Dan Hall:

http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?

userid=6F22T4xeON & sourceid=00398551267871483341 & bfdate=06%2D24%

2D2004%2B20%3A21%3A06 & isbn=0595314228 & itm=1

On the subject of raw food, I like the nifty little book by Victoria

Boutenko, " 12 Steps to Raw Food " , and it may be available in local

stores:

http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?

userid=6F22T4xeON & sourceid=00398551267871483341 & bfdate=06%2D24%

2D2004%2B20%3A21%3A06 & isbn=0970481934 & itm=1

Probably some more titles and authors will occur to me later :)

Zsuzsa,

Okay, thank you thank you thank you. :D

I am sad because I just lost out to your first rec " The Science and Fine

Art...... " on ebay. I bid on it several days ago and really thought I

had it " in the bag " . Pooh!

I'm going to take a copy of this rec list with me tonight and see what

there is to be had. I am such a geek-I look forward to these book trips

all month long. To me, reading on the internet doesn't hold a candle to

holding a book in your hand, to have for keeps always.

Thanks again!

Autumn :)

I think any book by David Wolfe is good. You can go to his web site and there

are tons of books listed. I see that Herbert Shelton has written several on

natural hygiene.

Good luck.
