Guest guest
Hi This is my first post to the group and I'm a little confused about the acceptable diet here from reading the sign up info. Is this group vegetarian or totally vegan? Also in raw foods does that mean totally raw as in veggie salads, or perhaps lightly steamed for softening? Guest guest
hi bill - i've only been here a few days.... i think it's ok to eat some steamed/slightly cooked veggies. i can't imagine eating raw asparagus, eggplant, potatoes, and some others - would LOVE to hear if people are doing it.. i'm still " transitioning " - this may last a WHILE... i actually read a fit for life book before raw diet book... i eat raw during the day - fruit first part of day - then a big salad - i need to eat more salads.. have a hard time keeping the stuff ready to go in the fridge - but working on it.... last night - i ate 7-layer burrito (taco bell), and before bed, some canned pineapple (packed in own juice).. i know canned isn't good - but figure i could do a lot worse... i resort to resort to canne veggies/fruit occasionally... also, for a carb craving, i'll eat some pasta with lightly steamed or stir fried veggies - sometimes with just a good, jarred, generic, meatless spaghetti sauce. and i keep individual pizza crusts made in bread machine in my freezer - for a quick fix - pour on sauce, pile on some veggies, and throw in the oven.. helps keep me out of my daughter's peanut butter, cheese, & crackers, etc... speaking of my daughter, i have a vita mix question - in 'nother post ... and if i avoid food network, i don't have a prob with pancake cravings lol i figure i'm still doing a LOT better than was... hopefully, lots of people will write and tell what they're eating! <<< This is my first post to the group and I'm a little confused about the acceptable diet here from reading the sign up info. Guest guest
Wow, huge area there so I'll limit myself to less than a trilogy. My husband and I have been a lacto-ovo vegetarians for between 20 - 25 years. This means that our diet includes dairy products and eggs. Our protein comes primarily from beans and legumes. The dairy products and eggs which we eat come from free range pets who have names and are served healthy and chemical free diets. Examples of meals we eat here: breakfast - oatmeal with fruit, whole wheat toast, orange juice and about a half gallon of full city roast Columbian coffee for me lunch - tortilla with refried beans, lettuce, salsa and grated Cheddar cheese dinner - potato soup, grilled cheese sandwiches (we prefer light meals in the evening) A different dinner could be corn, red beans and rice, corn muffins and a small salad. Hope this helps. One thing to remember about going vegetarian is that there are a lot more types of fruits, grains, legumes, beans and other vegetables than there are meats, fowl and fish. I can make different meals for every meal of every day of the year if I wanted to, but there are some things we prefer having a lot more often.
