Guest guest
I've experienced some of the things you've mentioned Valeri, only being on raw food for 5 months now. I feel more even keeled temperament wise a bit. I have a very high stress job, and before I would be sooooo stressed out, snappish, and really go over the edge a lot. I haven't been able to reduce the actual stress, but since going raw, I seem to be able to cope with it better. It is very difficult to explain why .. I have lost 30 pounds since August 1st ... am back to the weight I was in high school (and I'm now 55 so that's going back some!). I have less pain in my joints, even with less formalized exercise. I get heaps of 'work' exercise on my job. I like this journey. Right now I'm trying to keep in touch with my body, eat what I " crave " , and see where it all goes. cheers terry rawfood , Valerie Mills Daly <valdaly> wrote: > Hi, Swing, > > I don't have a lot of time at the moment, but I'll try to summarize; if you have any questions about specifics, let me know and I'll try to go more in-depth. > > It was not until I started going the raw food route that I began to see permanent, more emphatic changes at all levels. With the vegetarian and cooked vegan, there were some initial improvements, but they did not last, so I guess this is what seems to really work for me. I should say that I am now 49 years of age, just a few months away from the magic 50! Anyway, here's a list of changes since June: > > Weight lost so far: 45 pounds; have about 100 or so to go. > Sleep apnea, using a CPAC machine since 1996, now sleeping through the night without machine. > Shortness of breath with any exertion (like walking up stairs or a slight hill, etc.), now pretty much gone; I can walk every day in our hilly area for 30 to 60 minutes with no discomfort. > Gastric reflux has stopped. > Flexibility increasing (result of diet AND exercise, I am sure!) > Head and throat congestion much decreased. > Very light menses > No longer have edema in arms and hands, legs and feet > All joint pain has disappeared > Eyes have cleared (I had problems with regular 'cloudiness') > Skin is clearing > Candida symptoms fading away > More energy, rarely need naps, but when I do nap, they seem to be more refreshing > > Mental and spiritual overlaps for me, so I'll put these changes together in a list > > I have become much more 'even-keeled,' and much more optimistic (I've thought of myself as a dyed in the wool melancholic for years) > I am much more focused > Better memory (I think!) > While I seem to be feeling things, both positive and negative, more intensely, the negative doesn't throw me off course the way it used to. Guest guest
That's great, Terry! It's amazing what kinds of changes are made. A couple of things have come to my mind since beginning to think about these changes: First, I don't want to give the wrong impression; I have not always followed the straight and narrow way with regards to the food since I started making changes. There have been some very SAD days along the way, but I've been able to return to the raw foods fairly quickly. (I won't tell you about the infamous bacon double-cheeseburger day; that was Really SAD! LOL) So overall, I've been able to stick with it, but there have been some days where I have not. Secondly, I've noticed some frustration expressed by folks trying to do raw who are not seeing observable changes very quickly. Just an encouragement to be patient...sometimes, when you are older like me and have a wide variety of ailments, it's easier to see major changes very quickly. But if you are fairly healthy to begin with, and younger, etc. it may take a while longer to see the difference in your health. It does come, but may take longer to become obvious or measureable. I have been raw since late September and am feeling much better. I just turned 54. I wondered where you live. I am in NYC. Guest guest
Valerie, One thing I was hoping was, in eating a complete raw food diet, that my immune system would defend against colds and such. But not the case. My partner got back into the country last week, and brought with him a terrible cold. Well, this morning, wham - woke up with a pounding headache, stuffy nose, itchy eyes, and feeling generaly lousy. Oh well ... cheers terry rawfood , Valerie Mills Daly <valdaly> wrote: > That's great, Terry! Guest guest
I'm having a similar experience. I tried being a vegetarian, vegan, kicking sugar, alcohol, etc. when I was younger and in good health-- but I couldn't feel any positive effects from it! All I noticed was the alienation I felt when others were out in the bars, restaurants and coffee shops and I was at home eating a salad. Now that I'm 61 years old, I can very definitely feel the difference that these multiple addictions make in the way that I feel and the way that I perform. Perhaps that is telling me that it is time for me to do this thing-- and I'm also beginning to realize that it doesn't matter what others say or do. Guest guest
I think eventually our bodies build up enough immune strength that we won't see so much of the regular colds and things kicking in. I know this is my first year in many years of getting this far into the cold weather without getting a bronchial infection, and I'm glad. I've had a couple of sinus-type colds, but they only lasted a couple of days instead of a couple of weeks. I asked a couple of my healthy-eating friends about their experiences (they've been mostly raw for six years), and while they still get the odd cold now and then, it's rare, and when it does come, it's very mild and only lasts a couple of days. So hang in there; apparently it gets better! Peace, Valerie terry <levamssg wrote: Valerie, One thing I was hoping was, in eating a complete raw food diet, that my immune system would defend against colds and such. But not the case. Guest guest
Hi Valerie, Would you be willing to post a few days of typical eating for you please. I'm hoping it might help me see where I'm going wrong as I'm not losing weight. I'm eating about 75-80% raw for the past few months with no success in the weight loss dept. Thanks and happy holidays! calee Valerie Mills Daly <valdaly wrote: Hi, Lane, If you go to the main rawfoods home page at : rawfood/ and click on Messages (on the left), you will find my story at message 12220, and Terry's comes soon after.
