Digest Number 990 - changes since going raw

I've experienced some of the things you've mentioned Valeri, only

being on raw food for 5 months now. I feel more even keeled

temperament wise a bit. I have a very high stress job, and before I

would be sooooo stressed out, snappish, and really go over the edge

a lot. I haven't been able to reduce the actual stress, but since

going raw, I seem to be able to cope with it better. It is very

difficult to explain why ..

I have lost 30 pounds since August 1st ... am back to the weight I

was in high school (and I'm now 55 so that's going back some!). I

have less pain in my joints, even with less formalized exercise. I

get heaps of 'work' exercise on my job.

I like this journey. Right now I'm trying to keep in touch with my

body, eat what I " crave " , and see where it all goes.

That's great, Terry! It's amazing what kinds of changes are made.

A couple of things have come to my mind since beginning to think about these

changes:

First, I don't want to give the wrong impression; I have not always followed the

straight and narrow way with regards to the food since I started making changes.

There have been some very SAD days along the way, but I've been able to return

to the raw foods fairly quickly. (I won't tell you about the infamous bacon

double-cheeseburger day; that was Really SAD! LOL) So overall, I've been able to

stick with it, but there have been some days where I have not.

Secondly, I've noticed some frustration expressed by folks trying to do raw who

are not seeing observable changes very quickly. Just an encouragement to be

patient...sometimes, when you are older like me and have a wide variety of

ailments, it's easier to see major changes very quickly. But if you are fairly

healthy to begin with, and younger, etc. it may take a while longer to see the

difference in your health. It does come, but may take longer to become obvious

or measureable.

Peace,

Valerie

Dear Valerie. I am new to the raw foods mail group and would appreciate

reading your story about going raw. It seems several people have mentioned

how inspirational it is. I have been raw before but am now going again after

many years of SAD. I have been raw for three months and feel a lot better.

Thanks Lane

Hi Terry. I'm new to the board and was interested in your story. I have been raw

since late September and am feeling much better. I just turned 54. I wondered

where you live. I am in NYC. Thanks Lane

Valerie,

One thing I was hoping was, in eating a complete raw food diet, that

my immune system would defend against colds and such.

But not the case. My partner got back into the country last week,

and brought with him a terrible cold. Well, this morning, wham -

woke up with a pounding headache, stuffy nose, itchy eyes, and

feeling generaly lousy.

Oh well ...

cheers

I'm having a similar experience. I tried being a vegetarian, vegan,

kicking sugar, alcohol, etc. when I was younger and in good health--

but I couldn't feel any positive effects from it! All I noticed was

the alienation I felt when others were out in the bars, restaurants

and coffee shops and I was at home eating a salad.

Now that I'm 61 years old, I can very definitely feel the difference

that these multiple addictions make in the way that I feel and the

way that I perform.

Perhaps that is telling me that it is time for me to do this thing--

and I'm also beginning to realize that it doesn't matter what others

say or do.

I think eventually our bodies build up enough immune strength that we won't see

so much of the regular colds and things kicking in. I know this is my first

year in many years of getting this far into the cold weather without getting a

bronchial infection, and I'm glad. I've had a couple of sinus-type colds, but

they only lasted a couple of days instead of a couple of weeks. I asked a couple

of my healthy-eating friends about their experiences (they've been mostly raw

for six years), and while they still get the odd cold now and then, it's rare,

and when it does come, it's very mild and only lasts a couple of days. So hang

in there; apparently it gets better!

Peace,

Valerie

Hi, Ron, you are right; it really doesn't matter what other folks say or do;

we've got to do what is right for us. Life's too short!

get heaps of 'work' exercise on my job.

I like this journey. Right now I'm trying to keep in touch with my

body, eat what I " crave " , and see where it all goes.

Hi Valerie,

Would you be willing to post a few days of typical eating for you please. I'm

hoping it might help me see where I'm going wrong as I'm not losing weight. I'm

eating about 75-80% raw for the past few months with no success in the weight

loss dept.

Thanks and happy holidays!

Hi, Lane,

If you go to the main rawfoods home page at :

and click on Messages (on the left), you will find my story at message 12220,

and Terry's comes soon after. Just skim through those messages and you'll get an

idea of what we were sharing.

Welcome!

Valerie

What would you do if you knew you couldn't fail?
