Guest guest
Like Valerie, I am a bit " older " :-) and saw lots of changes come quickly also. I am 46 years old and have been vegetarian since 1982, vegan since 1993 and I first tried raw in 2000. I aimed for 75% raw then and, while I felt much better than before, I couldn't manage 75%; the cooked food kept pulling me back to all cooked and I gave up for a couple of years. In 2002, I read Raw Family and was inspired to try again only 100% raw. I lost 75 lbs, I gained tons of energy, I lost all joint pain, my eyes sparkled and my skin improved. After 10 months raw, I began an on-again, off-again period for about 16 months. It was very hard and discouraging. I would binge, then return to raw. There was incredible stress in my life at the time and I was trying to give myself space to struggle without beating myself up too much. After I read Jingee say she had a two year struggle with on-again, off-again raw to cooked, I felt much better. Now I've returned to 100% raw following the Orange Juice diet from The Garden Diet (Storm and Jingee) and I'm feeling wonderful again. During my 16 months of struggle, I'd gained back 35 lbs. Now I've lost 15 of it and feeling very positive. I am at peace with it all now. I am not feeling any internal struggle regarding my diet and it is a good place to be. I have a husband that eats cooked and I cook for him daily, and I have two young daughters, ages 7 and almost 5; I am thrilled that they are trying more and more raw foods and my 7 year old says she wants to " go raw " after Christmas. Guest guest
I've also had a two-year " running gun battle " with going raw vegan. I've made two months several times, but gone back with disasterous results. I'm now back to 4 days after my last " slip. " This time I'm experimenting with keeping it as clean as I possibly can; as black and white as I possibly can. I think I have gotten off a little at a time, then a little more, etc. I think the secret is to keep it black and white. But I will have to see the results of this latest experiment. Peeling the skin if necessary and using a knife is all the processing I can do in order to feel comfortable with the diet.
Guest guest
I'm just now into my second month totally raw. It has gotten a bit boring so I've gotten Alissa Cohen's video and book and more kitchen gadgets so things can get fun for a while with a nice variety. Tonight I made some candy with ground cacao beans and agave and coconut cream (I made that one up). Yumm...better than almond joy. Just need a very small amount to feel satisfied. I like the simplicity of the raw recipes. And I have so much energy now...more zest for life.
