Guest guest
Hi Terry, thanks for answering my question again. You mentioned that the greenstar does other things. What are some of those other things, and can the greenstar take the place of other pieces of equipment? This may sound like a silly question, but is there a machine that functions as a juicer, processor, grinder, ect ect? I'm trying to avoid having to purchase so many different pieces of equipment unless it's absolutely necessary.
Guest guest
If I had to cut it down to basics, the ones I use the most are my juicer, food processor and good blender or vitamix. I have a dehydrator, but I could live without it if necessary. Peace, Valerie sunflowersupreme <no_reply > wrote: Hi Terry, thanks for answering my question again. Guest guest
Hi Valerie, I'm hoping to get a processor for the holidays(fingers crossed)and I've heard vitamix mentioned often. Will have to check that one out. Another goofy question, but is there any way to use the stove on low setting in place of a dehydrator? ]
Guest guest
Not that I am aware of; it is too tricky to try to control the temperature. That's one of the reasons folks will be encouraged to get a dehydrator with a temperature control. It's too easy to overheat when you are dealing with direct heat like that. Some folks have tried ovens at the very lowest temp with the door propped open, but again, knowing for sure that the temp remains low enough to dry without destroying all the enzymes is the hard part. A dehydrator may be something you would want to put at the end of your list of 'must have's " ; some raw food teacher discourage the use of dehydration anyway, seeing it as not really being an optimal way of eating. The more I stick with the raw food diet, the less I seem to be using it just naturally. They would encourage use of all fresh foods instead. Again, it's one of those options. Guest guest
Most of the recipes I'd like to try which require a dehydrator are desserts, so it won't hurt if I purchase the dehydrator last. I can still make plenty of meals without it. Thanks Valeie. rawfood , Valerie Mills Daly <valdaly> wrote: > A dehydrator may be something you would want to put at the end of your list of 'must have's " ;
Guest guest
Sun, Regarding equipment. The one piece of equipment I wouldn't be without is my vitamix. Takes the place of any blender, and it also reduces nuts to powders and such, makes smoothies, tis wonderful. As far as the greenstar is concerned, I haven't played around with it much. It juices (but the juice is somewhat pulpy, so I use a different juicer), you can do ice cream (from frozen fruits), it grinds together grains to form a base for dehydrated breads. There are lots of folks who swear by the machine. I just haven't had the opportunity to really put it through its paces to see all of its functions. I'm not at home right now, so don't have access to the book. I will try to get online from home tonight and let you know what else it listed. Or perhaps someone on this list can give you more details about it. cheers terry rawfood , sunflowersupreme <no_reply> wrote: > > Hi Terry, thanks for answering my question again.
