Guest guest
My Raw New Years Story for you. Part 1 I was supposed to go scuba diving in Baja this weekend. Invited the InLaws-to-be to join us, along with my Dad who usually comes anyway. Well my FIL is on chemo now, as a " preventative " for lymphoma. (don't get me started). He was on chemo and radiation years ago, has had 2 surgeries, and just started another course of chemo again. I am beside myself, but as a newbie to the family, I can't say too much. Problem is, I have no " filter " ...LOL I bought and watched all the Lorraine Day videos and am DYING to give them to him. But my DFiance thinks they are too " Christain " and his family is Jewish. We did manage to get the Ralph Moss " Questioning Chemo " book, however, and hope to read that to my FIL through the weekend. The IL's decided they didn't want to go to Baja since there was no hospital nearby (fear of chemo side effect....again, don't get me started..). My DF wanted them to have a " vegan " weekend however. We pitched in and rented a house on the central coast. No diving, but I got to create the menu: Then I created a menu, and the drama began. Here is the menu: ################################################################################\ ######## Friday Breakfast: Wheatgrass Juice Organic Coffee (MIL drinks coffee) Breakfast: mediterranean salad Friday Lunch: Guacamole Salsa Mexican Salad **wheatgrass before dinner** Friday Dinner: Greens (steamed) with raw tahini sauce Edamame Sushi Rolls (raw) Watercress salad with teriaki dressing Dessert: Mango Ice Cream ****************************SATURDAY**************************** Sat Breakfast: Wheatgrass Juice almond milk and raw granola Breakfast: Tofu Scramble with leftover guac and salsa (sauteed, no oil) Sat Lunch: Raw Hummus Arugula and micro greens and sprouts salad Tahini dressing with Basil Cabbage Salad Sprouted Barley Tabouli Raw Squash Dill Soup **wheatgrass before dinner** Sat Dinner: Go out to Robin’s http://www.robinsrestaurant.com/menuset.htm (they have tempeh and tofu vegan dishes/salads) Dessert: Banana Strawberry ice cream ***************************SUNDAY**************************** Sun Breakfast: Wheatgrass Juice Raw Corn Chowder Raw Granola Almond Milk Sun Lunch: Raw Pasta Raw Marinara Raw Italian Zuccini Soup Mache/Arugula Italian Salad **wheatgrass before dinner** ################################################################################\ ######## My DF asked that I put some cooked stuff on there, since they are not even vegetarian to begin with. Then I had to create shopping lists for the menu. Then I had to separate the shopping list into what I needed from which store. (trader joes and whole foods). Then my MIL said she would go to Trader Joes. Then the IL's realized that the soups would be Raw, thus not HOT. Then the complaining began. All the IL's were mortified at the amount of ingredients (vegetables) necessary. Last night my DF and I went to whole foods. I have to gripe that whole foods is often a whole food disappointment. No sunflower seeds, no sunflower sprouts, no namah shoyu, etc. NO ORGANIC GRAPEFRUIT in california for chrissakes! (and they wanted $1.29 a pound for the non-organic ones!) Then my DF bought a vegan chocolate cake because today is his mom's birthday. Ok, so I'm glad it's vegan, but a bit annoyed because I'm not sure where that fits in with the wheatgrass and this " build your immunity " program. Everytime we see his dad we bring him a wheatgrass...LOL (to the point where they don't call too much anymore). I am striving for consistent messaging. I understand that you can't change people and I am not yet flawlessly Raw myself. Just pushing and trying to make it the routine, because I know we all need the enzymes. Simple as that! The more people around me that become raw the easier it is because we share preps and ideas. Prepping takes time. Fruit has too much sugar for me. Not quite " there yet " to just eat a bunch of cucumbers and feel like I ate. whine, whine, whine..... Then my DF and I realized that there is no Jamba or Robek's, or wheatgrass where we are going. Big freakout to find the " perfect juicer " commenced and ended, quickly. With all the research I did on the list, we decided to go with the Omega 8005. We overnighted it yesterday. We have 4 flats of wheatgrass waiting for me to pickup today. Let's hope the juicer really shows up. I just thought that all of you could appreciate this on some level or another. I had to share it so I can see the abundant comedy here. I know that most of you will understand the sugar/cancer connection, and my internal freakout about watching someone elect chemotherapy for " prevention " . Some of you will understand just trying to pull this off, with the menu, IL's/family, etc. Some of u will understand that I have not made some of these preps before, and now am doing so with an audience (I'm going to use Rose Calabro's book for the soups). At the end of the day, they will all probably want to eat out, and I will be peeling butternut squash all weekend. *whatever* I must add that my 86 year old vegan-in-denial, 50% raw Dad LOVES Lorraine Day as a result of all my cancer research. He watches her and Victoria Boutenko's videos and is awe inspired by them both (as I am). I can only hope to have some impact by example. Happy New Years and I'm open for any last minute comments/suggestions before I leave here at 3pm PST !! Michele with one L The all-new My – What will yours do? Guest guest
I think they will hate the raw foods diet if it is sprung on them against their wills. On the other hand if you just happily eat your food and they see how healthy you are they may get curious and want some. Just a thought, yours in health, Lane - " michele bustos " <ixim_mbustos <rawfood > Thursday, December 30, 2004 12:45 PM [Raw Food] My Raw New Years Story for you.
