Guest guest
I am new to the raw diet, but I thought Trader Joe's " raw nuts " are not really raw. I had been staying away from them. Are they raw? If not, can anyone recommend a good source of raw nuts in the orange county area or online? Thank you! Telia

Guest guest
Yea, they say things like the shells are heated to get the nut out. These things may be true but raw nuts, even blanched raw nuts, don't affect me adversely. I'm comfortable eating them in my overall being. And that's the key here, to be peaceful about my eating. Besides, they seem pretty darn bland, a key factor to raw food. Trader Joes raw nuts taste raw to me. Guest guest
Yea, but are they really heated at all to change their structure at all. Nuts that are heated out of their shell, and nuts that aren't, taste, look and seem exactly the same to me. Maybe heating the shell really doesn't affect the nut at all. If I left my raw nuts sitting in the sun for a little while and they got a little hot, and then took them out of the sun and they cooled, they'd still be the same as before I put them in the sun. Raw nuts, lol. Guest guest
I don't know how raw the " RAW " nuts at trader joes really are, but my point was that there was some sad point where they ceased to have RAW ALMONDS. Now whether they were really really really raw to begin with is a mystery, however, now, the only almonds they have now are annoyingly called: ALMOST RAW ALMONDS (i'm not kidding) Take Mail with you! Get it on your mobile phone.

Guest guest
Heat treated nuts are drastically affected. They may look the same but they will no longer sprout, they are no longer living. Raw nuts can be used to grow a new tree, heat treated nuts are dead and from the moment they are treated start to putrefy This is at the core of why many people (my self included) eat raw foods On Jan 6, 2005, at 1:44 PM, Rawist wrote: > > > Yea, but are they really heated at all to change their structure at > all. Guest guest
You can't grow a tree with a nut out of its shell. If I open a cashew shell without heat, I can't plant the cashew and grow anything. At least I don't think so.
