Guest guest
Yes, it is quite scary. My grandmother is in a Seventh Day Adventist retirement community and pays a great deal for the unhealthy, fatty slop that's served in the cafeteria. And SDA's are supposed to be healthy according to their religion...she only eats salads and beans there and buys her own food for her apartment. She's mostly raw, btw. It makes me so angry that they don't provide vegan options of the casseroles and other dishes they make. sheree M <milarepa wrote: Scary, isn't it? I just got off the phone with a vegan friend who is in the cardiac ward of a hospital. He had requested a vegan meal. They brought him turkey breast with gravy and mashed potatoes! They actually had to search and found a boca burger for him. Seems the menu in a cardiac ward should at least be low fat! I guess healthier foods won't keep the patients coming back. Of course the doctors are probably planning what kind of surgery and medications they can offer, but never mind nutritional advice or therapy. Jeff >Excellent point. Guest guest
Most of the reason for the slop in most places, schools especially is that if you don't serve the s*** the government says you don't get their subsidy. In other words you don't get the free cheese, butter, milk, rancid meats! Shari
Guest guest
Shari: Good point. My wife is starting a daycare and we found out that we can receive federal money for food we use for our little clients but we must serve specific types of food at each meal. We found that we'd end up feeding kids more than they would eat and foods that they probably wouldn't eat. So, we'd end up getting money for food we throw away. One interesting thing about this is that a woman who led a safety class for us told us to just save what the little tykes don't eat and serve it later. Yuk! Guest guest
Sheree, Speaking as an SDA myself, I don't have any numbers, but there are some SDA retirement places that serve more healthful food. Yes, we are supposed to be healthy. I'm not sure how to answer that as I can't speak for others and the decisions they make. Ron RawSeattle , Sheree <goldenrae2001> wrote: > Yes, it is quite scary. Guest guest
Jeff: A staple of the Hawaiian diet appears to be Spam which in my mind is one of the worst things a human being can eat. Guest guest
It's certainly not an original part of the Hawaiian diet and definately not a natural food for humans!!! Ditto on the " YUK! " (though, when growing up, I ate fried spam sandwiches. Of course I also had colds/flues/migraines/allergies, etc. Ya think there's a correlation?) Guest guest
" I know from what you speak " I was raised on the American diet and had just about every disease imaginable and was plagued with continual allergies that the " best allergist in the states " couldn't cure. I remember reading something about milk allergies in a book on yoga in 1974. I decided to stop drinking my typical 3/4 quart of milk a day and low and behold, within 3 days my nose dried up and 80% of my allergy symptoms disappeared! Even the " best allergist " didn't have the brains to make the food/allergy connection. It's no wonder there is an epidemic of diet related disease. As far as health goes, I think we're still living in the middle ages and are just entering the renaissance. My kids eat a healthy diet and are rarely sick. I don't remember the last time I had a cold I haven't had a " flu " in nearly 10 years and I'd rate as someone who's already entered the category of " old fart. " (knock on wood :-))) ) _____ It's certainly not an original part of the Hawaiian diet and definately not a natural food for humans!!! Ditto on the " YUK! Guest guest
LOL! While we're on the topic of gas, does anyone know the reason that flatulence seems to increase when we get into bed at night? I need a good excuse to use to defend myself with my wife. :-) M _____ Jeff Rogers [jeff] Wednesday, October 20, 2004 10:36 AM RawSeattle RE: [RawSeattle] Attitude..../M Must be all those raw foods causing the gas! > I'd rate as someone who's already entered the category of " old fart. Guest guest
you eat some types of carbs which your system can't digest. My asian friend eats rice without any gas problems, but when he eats some potato, then his system generates a lot of gas. Get in library book 'Body ecology diet' to understand what's happening. Guest guest
You probably eat for dinner a lot and late, and that stuff you ate is moving from stomach to intestines at the time you go to sleep. With healthy intestines you suppose to have as many BM as many times you eat and no gas. http://www.balancedapproach.com/1_1_coloninfo.htm#Need Or horizontal position also might be the key.
