Guest guest
When people talk about the Central Market, are they talking about this store? Shoreline Central Market 206.363.9226 15505 Westminster Way N. Shoreline, WA 98133 I've seen it mentioned several times now in conjunction with buying raw foods. Is there something special about this store, or do a lot of people just live near it? That store is a very long ways out of my way, but if it is something like a haven for raw food, maybe I will make a trip to go check it out. Guest guest
I live close (I'm on the county line in Edmonds) and I shop there quite often. They have a very large produce section, about 1/4 of which is an organics section. They carry young coconuts, which they go through quite quickly (so they're fresh) and sell them by the case, typically between $8 and $10 for 9. They also carry a lot of tropical fruits that other stores don't. I had my first taste of Jackfruit (all $50 worth of it!) from this store. When I went to Burningman they were also able to get my 13 cases of young coconuts, no problem. For those of us that eat nuts and seeds and are not picky about refrigeration, they carry a wide variety, often organics. In Bruce's class last year he was using a lot of garlic/chili/flax oil. They carry this at Central Market as well as a larger than most selection of other varieties of flax oils. And for those of us that live the raw food diet in houses where others are not raw/vegan, Central Market carries a great selection of other foods and products for everyone else too. Their checkers also know about raw foods, and take interest in what I buy every time I go there. Last night I bought 8 heads of organic lettuce, a bag of tomatoes, and a shopping cart full of other various raw fruits and veggies. The checker asked me if I was a raw foodist, and told me that " a lot " of their customers were. I was very happy to hear this! The caveat? Their prices tend to be high unless you're buying in bulk, and even then they aren't always great. PCC in the Greenlake area is cheaper, and a co-op, but their selection isn't as good. I do go there sometimes though, especially when I have my 10% off coupon! -Heather/starrrie Roger Padvorac <roger wrote: When people talk about the Central Market, are they talking about this store? Guest guest
Not sure where you are Roger, but there is a new Central Market in Mill Creek on Mill Creek Blvd between 128th & 164th. Shari
Guest guest
Roger, Yes, that's the one. They have a very good selection of organic produce, and decent prices too. They also recently opened a store in Mill Creek, and there may be other branches too, I'm not sure. Guest guest
Yes, that is the place. Central Market has a large selection of organic fruits, vegetables, seeds, & nuts, including frozen Durians. Sometimes the selection at PCC is better. Sometimes the prices at Central Market are better. Just depends on the week. In my opinion it is a haven in the north end - only place that carries a decent selection of organics. And bonus - right around the corner from my house!! Plus they play a lot of 80's hits. Much to my son's dismay, you might find me dancing in the isles occasionally! That being said, if I lived closer to PCC I would patronize them more often - out of convenience.
