Guest guest
I thought only those that wanted to be removed from the directory would be. I did not realize the entire directory is gone! Personally, I did not mind my information out there. Maybe not my address, but certainly my phone number and my email address was acceptable, to me. Were we supposed to vote on this and I missed something? Thanks, Shari - who is in need of some phone numbers and now can't get them!! Guest guest
I have been using the directory looking for phone numbers from time to time. I didn't realize it was removed until I tried to look for Shari's email address yesterday. I had to dig out a card she gave me seven years ago. Guest guest
Due to numerous and painful complaints, the entire directory has been removed. If you really need to find someone and you have no other options you can submit a request to one of the moderators. Jeff, Orion, Heartsong, or Eric. I encourage people to submit plans and volunteer hours for making this work better. Guest guest
The ultimate solution is to set up a secure site that can only be accessed through each member's unique name and password. I access my credit union balances this way as well as credit card statements and balances. Each person would be able to only change their personal information as listed in the database. And only members (or those with a member's name and password) would be able to access the secure database. Guest guest
Why can't we, who want to be listed, be in a directory? If we want to be listed we could send whatever information is okay to be shown. I'm having trouble understanding why the entire directory was removed. Was it not possible to just remove those wanting to be anonymous? It's certainly not an all or nothing thing, is it? I'm pretty much computer ignorant and maybe my suggestions are more complicated than I think. Shari Viger
Guest guest
Was the directory removed because people were getting snail mail, due to their addresses listed? Guest guest
The directory is supposed to have features that let a member modify or remove an entry, but those features don't seem to work, and the person who wrote the computer code that does that moved away. In short, there would have to be some programming done to make the directory work the way those who responded have proposed. If anyone who feels a need for the directory will donate programming resources then we can do something here. Orion
Guest guest
The complaints were more serious than that, and that's all I can really say about it.
